We've been hearing about it for months: since the groundbreaking success of Netflix's F1 expose-all docuseries, Drive to Survive, producers have tipped that a golf edition has been in the works. Well, it's finally here. Full Swing — #2 most popular on Netflix at time of recording — takes viewers behind the curtains in professional golf, during a particularly dramatic 2022 season. 8 episodes of heroes and heels in the golfing world like you've never seen them before. To celebrate the cultural moment for golf, the Shrinks decided to hop on the microphones to share their near-live reactions to the series, joined by Esquire contributor and GGT season 3 alumnus, Ben Boskovich. Ben profiled the Full Swing documentary on Esquire, which you can read here: https://www.esquire.com/sports/a42883602/full-swing-netflix-review/
In this session: broken hearts for Brooks, Golf Sickos, is the Pope catholic?

Lizette Salas is an LPGA Tour golfer. She's a US Solheim Cup team member. But her identity encapsulates so much more. During the height of the pandemic, when the LPGA Tour was shut down, Lizette was forced to ask herself big, difficult questions about how golf made her feel. For six months, she went through a process the Shrinks call "burning down the forest to see what grows back." Lizette worked hard on developing the vocabulary to describe how she was feeling to the people in her circle. It took time, but eventually she made it back to the golf course, ready to start competing again. Lizette is thoughtful, kind, insightful, deeply funny, and much, much more than a professional golfer.
In this session: broadening your identity, hit-and-giggles, don’t touch my clubs.

Jordan Rogers thought that Nike was the top of the mountain. He's since realized that it was just a stepping stone. His company, Perseus Creative, is dedicated to educating and empowering college athletes to build and monetize their personal brands through the NIL program. Personal brand gets thrown around a lot, but it's something Jordan has methodically worked on rebuilding in his own life. Jordan describes his rock bottom as the purple jail cell he found himself in at 21 years old, addicted to heroin, and staring down the barrel of a 20-year prison sentence. He was given a final chance to get clean, and has since dedicated his life to sharing his story with young people. He's also come back to golf with passion, and more clarity on the pursuit of perfection.
In this session: breaking par before parenthood, creative restriction, playing the white tees.

Abby Liebenthal has, like, so many full-time jobs. In addition to her 9-5 for the USGA, she heads up Fore the Ladies, one of the illest nonprofits in golf, which hosts introductory events and creates educational content designed to get more women and non-binary folks into the game. FTL is no joke: they hosted 50 events in 2022, and there’s no sign of slowing down. Abby shares about her experience in therapy, and works on receiving her well-due flowers for everything she’s working on in golf and in life. A true dynamo who should’ve graced the GGT Couch much, much sooner.
In this session: Bathrooms, core golf memories, In-n-Out fries stink.

Kareem Rahma is a lot of things. He's a standup comedian, a podcaster, a documentarian, and is the host of a buzzing new TikTok show, Keep the Meter Running. He's also a naturally-gifted, mostly-irregular golfer, who joined the Shrinks for a lively conversation about New York City, therapy, and making fun of your friends. Weekly phone calls with his therapist are taken during long walks around his neighborhood; a relationship that inspired a podcast concept, Walks of Life, which features one-sided confessionals from young people around the country. Kareem is deeply funny — and insightful, inquisitive, thoughtful.
In this session: running amok, fake lawyers, a good ol’ Pimento Cheese slagging.

Bonny and Michelle met in yoga class. Among many things, they connected over the lack of available options for women’s golf clothing. They got to designing, with a simple edict in mind: each piece must be considerate to how women functionally use the clothing on the golf course. That means pockets, that means mock-necks, that means ZERO skort mullets. Sierra Madre was born. What Bonny and Michelle designed encapsulates a growing wave in golf fashion: approachable, golf-agnostic, flexible pieces that people can wear without restriction.
In this session: hot dogs, a yoga and golf Moment of Venn, Bad Bonny.

Akbar Chisti and his wife, Megan, started Seamus Golf 11 years ago — they were one of the first in a slew of small makers in the golf space who have since helped define the look and feel of "new golf". The son of Pakistani immigrants, Akbar learned golf in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, while skipping Sunday school at his local mosque. He would eventually join the caddie ranks at Bandon Dunes quickly after the now-mega-resort opened in 2001, and now balances his business with coaching his daughter's volleyball team. Akbar is a joy.

Daniel Augustus (full name in session title) is a Bermudian professional golfer on the APGA Tour. He has a widely covered childhood story — it's an emotional one. But through hardship, Daniel pushed forward: he found golf and put every ounce of himself into becoming a professional athlete. More importantly, he worked therapy into his life to address the scar tissue left from his childhood, and now is committed to self care and personal validation.
In this session: the family cast-iron pan, Connor's ass, falling in the pond.

Who else loves a Thursday Bonus? The Shrinks grouped up for an all-too-rare session together, to ruminate on bagels and other breakfast breads, and Connor is so ill. The bois also discuss recent therapy conversations, the act of journaling and other forms of self-care, and how they deal with failure.

Jeremy Kirkland has been a #podboy since 2016 — an eternity, by podverse standards. His show, Blamo!, is artfully described as "a podcast about people wearing clothes." Drew has been a longtime listener, and he even copped to Blamo!'s influence on the creation of Group Golf Therapy — so it was only right to have Jeremy on the couch to spit on one of his other interests: golf. Jeremy regales the Shrinks with his journey to golf, his balancing act of aspirational consumerism, and his daughter's compulsive "creativity." NOTE: This is a *jawnzy* conversation.
In this session: Speed Golf, Connor's canceled style icon, Oprah.
