Eleanor ‘Nell’ Watson is a Machine Intelligence researcher who helped to pioneer Deep Machine Vision through her company QuantaCorp, which enables fast and accurate body measurement from just two photos.

In sharing her knowledge as an AI Faculty member at Singularity University and authoring Machine Intelligence courseware for O’Reilly Media, she realised the importance of protecting human rights and putting ethics, safety, and the values of the human spirit into A.I.

She chairs EthicsNet.org, a community teaching pro-social behaviours to machines, plus many other organisations.

Nell serves as a Senior Scientific Advisor to The Future Society at Harvard, and holds Fellowships from the British Computing Society, and Royal Statistical Society, among others.

Her public speaking has inspired audiences globally to work towards brighter futures at venues such as the MIT, The World Bank, The United Nations General Assembly, and the list goes on.

She’s our favourite female technologist and we love that she believes that technology can (and should) be leveraged to free us from the saddest aspects of the human condition. Such an important topic as our world becomes more virtual.

Welcome to GrowGetters - the future skills podcast. You may remember, in Season 1, Episode 8 we covered the Art of the Pitch which delved into a couple of methods to craft a killer pitch.

So in today’s episode, we speak from our experience of what the real Dos and Don’t of pitching are. We were super lucky enough this year to pitch our business a number of times - and to pretty decent success!

We pitched GrowGetters to a panel of industry experts in August and won a coveted spot as a fellow for a 9-month media startup incubation program and grant with Media Lab Bayern - one of Europe’s leading media tech innovation hubs.

We also pitched against 100 other female startups in the XATHON hackathon - one of Europe’s biggest women’s tech events - and were selected as a finalist ranking number 5!

So in other words, we have sharpened our pitch game and learned so much over the last 12 months, and we want to share those learnings with YOU!

In this episode, we take a quick step back to remind us of why it’s such an important exercise to create and refine your business pitch.

We have a question for you...What is capacity? And why do we need more of it?

Our world today is becoming exponentially faster, more complex, unpredictable, and extremely volatile. And in today’s masterclass the brilliant mind and one of my dear friends, Elvira Barriga takes us on a journey to understanding how we deplete our bodies, minds, hearts, and spirits and how we can establish practices that nourish ourselves.

Elvira is the co-founder of Tales of Tomorrow, a design studio for conscious creativity with an academy for resilient creatives.

Elvira spent 20 years helping leading organizations worldwide to clarify their vision, develop their brand identity, innovate products, and engage their audiences via non-traditional exhibitions and interactive installations.

Elvira was a Creative Director at Local Projects NYC, Imprint Projects NYC, and Bruce Mau Design in Toronto; just to name a few. She spearheaded the redesign of the museum experience at the Hyde Park Barracks Museum in Sydney, the Fashion for Good Center in Amsterdam, the Legacy Museum: called ‘From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration in Alabama, the environmental history gallery at the National Museum of Australia, and the list goes on.

After years of surfing the adrenaline waves from one tight deadline to another, managing jet lag, and feeling more and more depleted, she eventually embarked on a sabbatical in 2019. She spent time in retreat and got trained up, earned her coaching certification, co-created a digital Resilience Platform, and finally channeled her energy and beliefs into Tales of Tomorrow.
