David clearly connected his suffering with his sin. And, while most instances of suffering in the Bible aren't the result of specific sins, David's in Psalm 38 certainly was. He suffered physical, emotional, and social issues because of it. His only hope was to plead with God for mercy.

God will not forsake his people. We know this intellectually, but we struggle to accept it emotionally. Our hearts and minds tell us otherwise. We have to listen to the Word of God and continually speak the truth that God will not forsake us to ourselves.

Man is sinful in his very nature. Yet, God is gracious and kind to forgive us our sins. We must be on constant watch over our souls though.

In our final sermon on James, we deal with the call to prayer and to pursue those who've wandered from the church. James says we are to pray in every season of life: suffering, joy, and sickness.
