Evidence of the goodness of God is found in how gracious and patient He is towards those who reject Him. It's surprising to see His response. Case in point - Cain! Pastor Jim Jarrett is teaching from the book of Genesis. We've come to the story and family of Cain. So let's jump right in.

On today's broadcast, we'll gain a whole new appreciation for the gracious warnings of Scripture from our loving God. To help assure sin doesn't have its way with us as it did Cain, let's join pastor Jim Jarrett in Genesis chapter four picking up in verse seven.

Cain had several "firsts" in his life. He was the first baby, and yet became the first murderer. It's shocking to think that a baby could one day become a murderer. But tragically, it's a terrible reality that repeated for far too many families. You might be wondering how this happens. Is there anything that can be done about it?

One of the consequences of sin is the curse. And you may recall one area that was cursed is the ground. So man's work will now be by the sweat of his brow. Let's talk about that for a bit. From Genesis chapter three, picking up in verse eighteen.

When God tells us to do something, or to avoid a certain behavior, we should listen and obey, wouldn't you agree? When we fail to do that, there are severe consequences, and the story of Adam and Eve reminds us of that. We're about to see the reason for the curse, as we look at Genesis chapter three.

We tell our kids from an early age that bad decisions in life have consequences. Some of us have learned that lesson the hard way. And of course we want them to avoid the mistakes that we've made. Adam and Even certainly made their fair share of poor choices, and the result was judgment and The Curse. But they weren't left without hope, because the Messiah would come to forgive them and us of sin!

For the last few weeks we've been in Genesis, and we're spending a considerable amount of time in chapter three, which of course is where the fall of man and the curse are described for us. We don't want you to miss God's message of grace, even in the midst of the Curse. Though there would be judgment for Adam and Eve, there's also the hope of salvation and forgiveness to cling to.

Right now pastor Jim Jarrett is in a detailed study of the early portion of Genesis. And as we head back to chapter three Jim is going to point out the curse and judgment that came as a result of Adam and Eve's sin. It's amazing to consider how this act of disobedience has had such a profound impact on human history. The good news is, though paradise was lost, it can be regained by God's grace.

Today on Growing in the Word, pastor Jim Jarrett is going to look at what Adam and Eve told God when they were caught with their hands in the cookie jar so to speak. We're in Genesis three.

We're back in Genesis three today, where we've been for quite some time. It's rich with helpful insights regarding sin, temptation, and as we'll see today Grace! If you have small children, you can often times tell they've done something naughty by the look an their face. It's a look of total shame. It's reminiscent of how we often feel after we sin. But as we'll see today, our Heavenly Father comes to the sinner in a very gracious way!
