Growing Up Spiritually 103

Listen Later

Spiritual growth is not independent or accidental—it requires teaching, discipleship, and accountability. Just as a child must be fed, believers must be taught the Word through faithful pastors and the life of the local church (Nehemiah 8:4–8; Matthew 28:18–20). The church is not casual attendance—it is a spiritual school where disciples are trained, formed, and equipped.

This episode also emphasizes that growth requires action. It is not enough to hear the Word; we must do it (James 1:22). True maturity is seen in obedience under pressure and consistent application of what we are taught.

Finally, we examine prayer as a core discipline of spiritual growth. From Jesus teaching His disciples to pray (Luke 11:1–4), to persistent prayer (Luke 11:5–13), heartfelt and fervent prayer (James 5:16; Luke 22:44), extended times of prayer (Luke 6:12; Mark 1:35), and praying in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:18; Jude 20), we see that spiritual strength is built through a lifestyle of consistent, expressive, and persevering prayer.

Spiritual growth happens in community, through teaching, obedience, and a disciplined prayer life.

Grow deliberately. Grow deeply. Grow together.
