We all have failed. We made the wrong move, used the wrong word, picked the wrong time, and failed to deliver. For most of us, we tend to let our failures hold us back from pursuing the things that God calls us to be. We wrestle with these questions: What does God think of me when I fail? Am I still fit to serve Jesus after I messed up?

If there was a day in the history of the world that called for a loud shout of victory and renewed hope, it was Resurrection Sunday! But instead of seeing the reality of Jesus' victory, the disciples on the Road to Emmaus found themselves in a place of despair that Sunday in which all they saw were failure and defeat. How come? What happened? How did they move from despair to hope?

We will embark on a new sermon series entitled “Encounters" this coming Sunday, and we will meet the first person who encountered the risen Jesus. She is known as Mary Magdalene and she sure had a checkered past! But did it stop her? Did Mary let her past define her? And did her past keep her from stepping out into her God-given destiny?

The cross is one of the most powerful and inspirational symbols of Christianity.  Yet many Christians still look at the cross in a negative light. They label their pain and sufferings as the cross they must bear. So is the cross a symbol of hope or a symbol of suffering for a Christian? Does it a signifies a life of victory or a life of drudgery and joylessness? Maybe it's time to rethink Jesus' challenge to take up the cross and make sure we really understand it right just as He intended it to be.

“Believe in yourself.” That's a common message we hear today. But did Jesus say that? Is it a message based on Scripture? Or is it a lie? If it’s a lie, then what’s the truth? Should everyone believe and act like you do? Sadly, many professing believers try to impose their ‘convictions’ and preferences on other believers. As a result, many Christians are in bondage of legalism rather than experiencing the freedom of grace.

Many Christians tend to be judgmental and overly critical of those people who don’t share their beliefs and who find their behavior offensive. Is it okay to spew hateful comments and bash people because you don’t agree with their political views, religious beliefs, or lifestyle? Sadly, Christians are more known today to be self-righteous hypocrites and judgmental people rather than people of compassion, mercy, and kindness. It's a sad thing to know that many Christians believed in a lie that if you are spiritual enough and that you have enough faith then it will guarantee you a life of blessings free from trouble and difficulties. And so if you find yourself in difficulties and trouble, you then conclude that it's because you don't have enough faith and you aren't obedient enough as a Christian. This is one of the paralyzing lies that preachers preach to manipulate and control Christians to do their bidding wishes. It's time to expose this deceit and uncover the liberating truth of Scriptures this coming Sunday.
