May 25, 2016Ep 187- All Work and No Play? When it comes to be being productive, there are a lot of different schools of thought around what works and what doesn't. One thing that has been shown to help you be more productive is taking time off. It's good for your brain, you end up doing more etc. Josh Pastner, newly minted basketball coach of Georgia Tech, seems to think that time off is a sign of weakness. In business, it's time to let go of the old notion that beating your head against the wall is the only way to be successful. That's the topic of this week's New Work Revolution podcast. April 27, 2016Ep 186- Communicating the Gaps If you want your team to feel unsafe, stop communicating with them. Once a lack of communication gap open up, it allows for fear, doubt, worry, gossip and starts to derail productivity in the business. If you ever have points in time where you aren't communicating effectively, it's probably not because you want to be a poor communicator but other things get in the way. I call these times where communication grinds to a halt, communication gaps. Communicating the gap is all about being intentional with how and when we communicate with employees. You want to make sure you have time and space created for communicating and connecting. This is particularly important during times of uncertainty or change. April 13, 2016Ep 185- Don’t Forget About EmotionsWhen I first started coaching, I was all head and no heart. People hired me for my knowledge and expertise but I learned quickly that clients wanted their information brought to them in a more appealing way. You can be the best in the world at what you do but if you fail to connect with the people that you work with on an emotional level, your customers won't stick around. It's to get into nuts and bolts when it comes to your business but don't forget about emotions. My wife will attest that I am not an emotional guy which makes it an area that I have to intentionally connect with. You may find that the emotional side of things come really natural to you. In business, it's easy to overlook the fact that even if you get someone great results, how that person feels about your process is important. This week's New Work Revolution Podcast is about how to connect people to the emotional side of your business. I doubt this is all of the ways that you can do that so I would love to hear your ideas. When we see other people not getting results, particularly those that we care about or have personally invested in, it's easy to assume that a lack of results is from a lack of caring. When I confront behavior, I want to cut through the bullshit and get to what the real issue is with the person that I am working with. This week's podcast goes through four areas that I look at to help you uncover excuses and get to real problem solving that creates lasting action. If you aren't excited about what's going and what's possible in your business, how the hell is anyone else supposed to get there. Inspiration is a great tool to build excitement in your business. It's easy to get frustrated by what is going on in your business or by how people are showing up. As a leader, you don't get the option of showing up in a less than enthusiastic manner. Sure we are all human and prone to disappointment but we still have an obligation to show up for our team. If you don't, your demeanor wears off on your team and puts them in the same place that you are.
