Suicide in rural New Zealand is higher than any other demographic having a lasting ripple effect through a community - especially with our young people, who are often the largest statistic.
Elle Perriam is unlike anyone I have met in my short time here on earth. Her partner at the time, Tim was lost to suicide at the raw age of 20. Being told her and her loved ones needed to wait 8 weeks for public counselling or any psychological help, Elle realised she needed to change things for the rural community. Growing up on the West Coast and in the deep south of New Zealand, Elle understands and loves rural life deeply.
Her charity, Will to Live is born and since then she has travelled across NZ to get rural people speaking up about their mental-health and traumas, to begin the healing process surrounded by their own community.
From the Shemozzle to Bark Ups at local pubs, Elle has taken it upon herself to not only work through her own trauma but help others do the same.
We speak about her story, how she got to where she is right now across the 5 areas of holistic health and how you to can work from within to find growth.
