In this Sunday's gospel John, the Baptist was called not to baptize, but to witness to the light, and the coming of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Sunday, we arrive at the point in Matthew's story about Jesus where things are getting tense. Riding the wave of popular acclaim, Jesus is confronted by the religious leaders regarding the authority behind his actions.
