In Matthew 9:35-10:8 [9-23] Jesus sends his disciples out to do the work he himself has been doing: preaching, teaching, and healing. He gives them instructions for how they are to do this and how they should respond to people who do not accept them.

Pentecost is often referred to as the birthday of the church. It tells the story of Jesus's followers receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. Each of the texts is celebratory: Acts 2:1-21, Psalm 104:24-34, 35b, 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13, and John 20:19-23.

She focuses most of her attention on the gospel, which comes from Jesus' farewell discourse where he talks about how not only are he and God one, but we are all invited into this same unity of being made one with God.

Jesus promises his followers that even though he is leaving them they will not be alone because he is sending them the Holy Spirit.

The community to whom the book is written faces false accusations and slander for their beliefs. The author attempts to encourage them in this suffering and to give them hope in the example of Jesus Christ.

Psalm 66 is one that is vast in scope. It starts by the whole earth blessing and praising God, then looks at God's saving acts with that community, and finally moves the the perspective of the Psalmist and how God has worked in his or her life. It also brings up questions of suffering and where God is during those times.
