Sarah talks about the New Testament lessons assigned for the sixteenth Sunday After Pentecost: James 2:1-17 and Mark 7:24-37. Both texts ask questions of what it means to be in relationship, what God's love looks like, and what loving God means for loving our neighbors.

Sarah talks about the New Testament readings assigned for the Fifteenth Sunday After Pentecost: James 1:17-27 and Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23. While there are multiple themes within these texts, she mostly focuses on what it means to live in the world as a child of God. How does that affect our relationships? Where does the law fit in?

Sarah talks about the texts assigned for 14th Sunday after Pentecost: Ezekiel 33:7-11, Exodus12:1-14, Psalm 119:33-40, Romans 13:8-14, Matthew 18:15-20.  She looks at how the gospel reading talks about community and how we live in community when we disagree with others or are hurt by the actions of others.  Jesus gives advice for this and reminds us that where 2 or 3 are gathered in his name he is present among them.

Sarah looks at the assigned texts for the 13th Sunday after Pentecost: Jeremiah 15:15-21, Exodus 3:1-15, Psalm 26:1-8, Romans 12:9-21, Matthew 5:1-12.  The Gospel text is actually not the one assigned for that Sunday, but is Jesus' Sermon on the Mount where he gives many descriptions of those who are blessed and why.  What do you think of when you hear the word blessed?  How have you been blessed in your life?  Do Jesus's descriptions of the blessed resonate or put you off?

Sarah talks about the texts assigned for the 12th Sunday after Pentecost: Isaiah 51:1-6, Exodus 1:8--2:10, Psalm 138:1-8, Romans 12:1-8, Matthew 16:13-20.  Each of these texts, in various ways, talks about God's love for us, and the lengths to which God has gone, and continues to go, to be in relationship with us.  God is with us no matter where life and the world takes us, good, bad, and everything in between.

Sarah talks about the lectionary texts assigned for June 11, 2017, Holy Trinity Sunday, all of which point in some way to the triune nature of God: Genesis 1:1-2:4a, Psalm 8, 2 Corinthians 13:11-13, Matthew 28:16-20.  The gospel text contains Jesus's Great Commission to his disciples, instructing them make other disciples by baptizing them in the name of the Trinity.  From this story Sarah asks the question, "what does it mean to be a disciple?"
