Hi Jimmy and Dr. Limansky, I love Keto Talk and I have a question about high blood sugar while eating low-carb, high-fat. I am a Type 1 diabetic and I try very hard to keep my blood sugar at an optimal level between 80-100. But given that my blood sugars can drastically rise for any reason at all (including because of hormones, stress, anything) it is tricky. Here is my question for you: If I am eating very low-carb, moderate protein, and high-fat as we aim to do on a ketogenic diet but my blood sugar rises above 100 because of the challenges of being a Type 1 diabetic, does my body then react to the high-fat intake int he same way as if I had consumed too many carbs and/or protein? Will this high blood sugar level under this scenario have the same impact on the body? My goal is to be completely keto-adapted all the time, but that’s a challenge with Type 1 diabetes. I appreciate any input you might have for me. Erika   NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship – STUDY: Ketogenic diet can slow ageing, study suggests 1. Does the inflammation-lowering effect of a ketogenic diet help ward off the development of the cold or flu? Hi Jimmy and John, I love listening to Keto Talk every Thursday as it motivates me to stick with my ketogenic lifestyle. As a touring musician and singer, the biggest issue I’ve found among my traveling peers is catching a cold. Airplanes, tour buses, late nights, and jet lag all take their toll on our immune systems. Because we have to use our voices for our livelihood, it really sucks when we get that Throat Tickle of Doom. However, I’ve noticed when I REALLY stick with keto while I'm on the road, I've observed times where everyone else gets sick and I don't. If I do feel a cold starting to come on, it’s definitely far less inflammation in my throat in the morning despite long flights and rigorous schedules. Interestingly,, when I've had a night of carb-filled indulgence, I will often come down with a cold the very next day. Is there any evidence that eating a ketogenic diet helps strengthen the immune system against things like the cold, flu, laryngitis, and more? Am I crazy or am I on to something here? Thanks for your help! Aubrey "The twin villains in your health are processed carbohydrates and vegetable oils." – Jimmy Moore 2. Does being in a constant state of nutritional ketosis increase your body temperature? Is this elevated temperature harmful or a sign of health? Hi Jimmy and Dr. Limansky, Thank you for the Keto Talk podcast as I’ve found the discussions very helpful. I first went low-carb (via Atkins) in 2008 or so and I bought the pee strips to test for ketosis. While I lost the weight I wanted to lose—about 20 pounds—I allowed carb-creep to set in! Menopause also came along about that time and whammo blammo, I put on nearly 30 pound in the next year. I decided to start eating ketogenic in January and lost weight and inches off my waist with a concerted effort to stay in ketosis for longer periods. But I’ve noticed I am often VERY warm. At first I thought it was hot flashes again which had pretty much stopped for years, but my temperature goes up and stays up. All I found online is that it is possible that fat burning increases body temperature. Do you know if this is true for people who are in a constant state of ketosis? Is this a good or a bad thing? Thanks again for your work. Kathy YOUR NEW KETO DIET ALLY NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship 3. Are there any known therapeutic effects for treating Gastroparesis with a ketogenic diet? Hi Jimmy and The Keto Doctor, Thanks for all you do—you are my go-to for all things ketogenic. I’m writing because my brother suffers with Gastroparesis that developed from his diabetes. Have you heard if a ketogenic diet can help with this condition? I’ve been looking online about this and there are too many conflicting things said about ketosis for this condition. Of course, his doc wants him on the same old low-fat, low-fiber diet that hasn’t helped him in his life ever. He’s currently hospitalized for this and we need some help. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Anna KETO TALK MAILBOX – Does an A1c level below 6.0 which is typical of someone eating a ketogenic diet indicate possible hypoglycemia? Hi guys, When I was first diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, I signed up for the dLife newsletter to help me figure out what to do to improve my health. I then started listening to The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show podcast because I was interested in reversing diabetes not just accepting it as an inevitable fat. But in the latest newsletter from dLife, I couldn’t believe they were stating that an A1c of less than 6 means you might be hypoglycemic! Here’s the link to what they sent out to dLife subscribers today: http://dlife.com/a1c-blood-sugar-average/?utm_source=Newsletter-20171201 Could you please address this and share how and why they got it wrong?
