Celebrating his new release on the Label this week we've got Danvers in for a guestmix, naturally. Centred around his tracks on the EP he crafts a journey through the soundscapes and vibrations influencing the Distant Recalls EP.

You may know him as one half of UK duo ‘Kassian’ who have previously released on SB, but here he flies solo with a mix of expertly produced electronic, acid washed breaks. Enjoy!

We're really excited to bring you one of London's most exciting DJs currently bubbling up through the scene. Drawing inspiration from sounds of the 70s discotheque, this selector keeps people moving with mixes of Disco, Old School House, and an eclectic selection of Vocal and Dance tunes. Influenced by 90s music from New York and Chicago, MiNNA combines her joy and curiosity of music & dancing by finding new tracks and digging through old records, which she began doing from the age of 12.

"For this mix I wanted to open up with a few Disco gems then head to some more Housey flavours, as well as dipping into some Vocal and Garage House I’ve found digging recently. Currently I’m really into proper Old-school 90s House and wanted to play some tracks I love from some iconic labels such as Madhouse Records, Soulfuric, Z Records and BPM King St. Sounds. Lex is a DJ and music producer hailing from Athens, Greece. With almost twenty years in the dance music business, Alex Andrikopoulos - his real name, is nowadays considered one of the key figures of the underground local club scene. In the beginning of the millennium he started 'Radical Soundz', one of the most important record stores and a substantial body of dance and electronic music culture of Athens, until 2009 when the beloved spot closed its doors. In such an inspired environment he trained and educated him self into what dance music is.

Meanwhile he meets Greek DJ/producer Tolis Q and together they form 'Quantized Music', a house and techno label. At the same time he begins to spin regularly in the city's most renowned venues and when his first music productions are issued he starts to gain serious recognition. Nex step was the creation of an established club night. He cooperates with Locke, a DJ and music promoter, and they throw a fashinating series of parties under the name 'Move'.

Nowadays Lex focuses on his music productions and DJ gigs. His versatile sound fuses elements from disco, house and techno often with a deep, soulful and organic feel to it. He is a regular at six d.o.g.s and Dybbuk, two of Athens' pioneering venues and also has appearances in important venues around the globe such as Wanderlust in Paris, Sisyphos and Chalet in Berlin, Output in New York, Club NL in Amsterdam, The Magic Roundabout in London, Rioma in Mexico City, Culture Box in Copenhagen, Zig Zag in Cairo, to name a few.

Also in recent years, Alex has been very active as a producer. He has released music on labels such as Leng Records, Samosa, B2 Recordings and Black Riot while in 2022 his maiden release on Delusions of Grandeur and his first solo album on Leng Records is expected.

Jamison Isaak has been releasing music as @teendaze since 2010. Over the past 13 years, his music has navigated a multitude of different sounds, and his 2021 LP Interior landed him the JUNO Award for Electronic Album of the Year. This year, he released 4 EPs, his most recent, Quiet City, on his newly launched label, Easy Listening Recordings. He's also been busy DJing across North America in the past few years, and recently started a residency on Dublab. We're very much looking forward to welcoming him into the SB guest mix series with a lovely little opener for 2024!

We're excited to welcome Arkajo to the mix series this week. He's well known for his work with Dorisburg as part of the one-of-a-kind house duo Genius of Time but we're also huge fans of their Aniara Records label with its beautifully deep sonic soundscapes and have coveted so many of their releases over the years.

With his background in jazz composition, live performance and behind the scenes studio work, he is equal parts producer, musician, dj and technological wizard. A keen understanding of sound, rhythm and harmony is evident on his releases as well as in his dj sets, locking your body in rhythm and exploring distant vistas in your mind.

"This is a mixtape in the literal sense of the word, recorded in my living room onto cassette tape. I've primarily selected records that have been in my bag for the last couple of months, along with some new bits that I find very exciting and inspiring. It's a mix on the housier side, gradually descending into a darker vibe, signing off with a remix of one of my tracks by one of my favorite producers and DJs, Polygonia. Frederika is a London based international DJ originally from Bulgaria whose genre bending sets have graced the soundsystems of many of London’s most coveted venues. You can see her spin records regularly at brilliant corners and she has shared line ups with artists such as Dar Disku, Lakuti, Sadar Bahar, Mafalda, and Cosmo Sofi at various venues across town. Along with playing at festivals, clubs and listening bars she also frequently appears at NTS, Balamii and Soho Radio and she has a regular monthly show on The Boat Pod where she explores her vast music collection. Expect to hear rarities and oddities of all genres from the 70’s blended with modern four to the floor heavy hitters, resulting in a playful musical journey for the mind, body and soul.

"I’ve been digging music that’s heavy on percussion recently and in this mix I’m exploring the clubbier four to the floor side of it. All the songs I’ve weaved together here are drawing from different cultures and continents, starting real slow with a hypnotic ritualistic groove that combines African and Nyabinghi drumming with a Buddhist Sanskrit mantra and ending with a sambass classic. Tambores En Benirras is the alias of Graham Newby AKA 'DJ Gripper'. A month after the release of his debut album as Tambores En Benirras, 2021’s fabulous Orbe Dotodo, Graham Newby’s life changed forever. After years of living with a visual impairment, his sight had deteriorated so much that he was declared “registered blind”. For a man who had spent decades dividing his time between travelling, DJing, running clubs and lengthy sessions in his studio, it was a genuinely life-changing moment.

It was against this backdrop, and the need to alter his working methods that Ondas Horizontales, the second Tambores En Benirras album, took shape. Inspired by a mixture of daydreaming, visualisation, immersion in other people’s music (escapism that provided mood enhancement rather than a specific set of ideas) and long periods spent soaking up the sun in Ibiza, the album is the most vividly detailed, sonically colourful, and sun-soaked collection that Newby has released to date.

Newby’s declining sight forced him to stop spending long spells staring at a screen, undoubtedly slowing the production process. Yet it also allowed him to reconnect with his emotions, appreciate the storytelling and mood-shifting potential of music, and mine mind’s eye memories of places and spaces that have meant much to him over the years.
