  • CURTIS RADIO - JAVI BAYO. SHOW #26

  • CURTIS RADIO - DJ VADIM. SHOW #25
The Curtis Radio "10 songs only" series keep gaining momentum, the list of very special guests keeps growing strong and today we reach episode number 25 with another top musical talent and international star. We follow DJ Vadim's extended and highly prolific career since day one. It was the early 90s and Vadim aka The Dub Catcher was already on our radar as he was starting from a foundation in instrumental hip hop and releasing great music on his label Jazz Fudge and in seminal UK imprint Ninja Tune too. But a voracious appetite for musical discovery and experimentation made it impossible to pigeonhole and restrict his musical palette to just one genre or style. Both in the studio (with 17 albums released to date)and in stages and DJ booths around the world (over 3000 gigs in 78 countries) he has achieved a trademark and highly personal Vadim sound that combines hip hop, reggae, dancehall, bass culture, latin, disco, funk, world sounds, and beyond. So it's with great pleasure that today we present here 10 songs that represent and matter in the always soul-lifting and colorful musical world of DJ Vadim. Press play, turn it up, and enjoy the ride! Daddy Vad is in the house Ladies and Gentlemen.

  • CURTIS RADIO - THE EGYPTIAN LOVER. SHOW #24
They say that there are 2 eras in modern music. The one that came before the invention of the Roland TR-808 drum machine and the era that came after. We believe that statement to be true. Such is the massive influence of that seminal and powerful machine in the music that we play and listen today. And if there is a particular genre intrinsically linked to the sounds and drum patterns of a Rolant TR-808 machine that is obviously Electro. From Kraftwerk, to Afrika Bambaataa to Drexciya among many others, the fantasy of a sound produced by robots that have a human soul has intrigued and seduced and influenced us in many ways. Today in our Curtis Radio "10 songs" series, we are delighted and honored to present a very special guest that belongs to that original lineage of electro originators. The Egyptian Lover is one of the most prominent and creative ambassadors of that happy crossing where electro and funk get together. He is electrofunk royalty, a cornerstone of a hybrid sound (electro + funk) that we love so much because it instantly makes us shake our asses and feel good. So press play, turn the volume up and enjoy 10 songs that really matter in The Egyptian Lover's world.

  • CURTIS RADIO - PEDRO GENERELO. SHOW #18
One day about 4 years ago, a week before Curtis was even open to the public, this man walked by, read our sign, smelled vinyl, and sneaked in under the half-closed metal door.
    - are you guys open?
    - well, not really. We are here just getting things ready to open...soon
    - do you mind if I take a quick look at the records?
    - yes man, no problem. Have a look
10 minutes later he approached the till with a pile of 300€ worth of records.
He paid and left with a smile on his face and a stack of new wax under his arm.
Wow! This causal encounter sure gave us a massive boost of confidence. We thought "...well, in the end maybe there is going to be a public who will appreciate our simple concept of a bar devoted to our love for good records and good sound. We were not so sure about it back when we were starting.
The man, being an old-school DJ and a voracious record collector, came back every single week after that, looking for more records and a Vichy Catalan sparkling water on ice and lemon
Talking to him we discovered that we have met each other about 3 decades ago, when he was a battle DJ and member of a breakdancing crew, and later when we were producing club music for the same local record label. Small world.
His Curtis Radio 10 songs of choice are testimony to his excellent taste in music and an instinct for finding and playing classy uplifting beats and grooves that make you feel really good. So sit back, relax, turn the volume up, and enjoy Pedro Generelo's impeccable 10 songs selection for Curtis Radio.
