But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.1 John 1:7 NIV
Guilt is one of the biggest obstacles between us and having a close relationship with God and friends. The problem with not owning our guilt and admitting our sin is that we can never truly experience forgiveness or really let go and be free. If we want to be close to God and others, we have to stay in the light and be transparent. Russ, Cameron, Mike, and Amy continue their discussion of dealing with guilt and understanding forgiveness in the second part of this series.
There is a sure way for us to know that we belong to the truth. Even though our inner thoughts may condemn us with storms of guilt and constant reminders of our failures, we can know in our hearts that in His presence God Himself is greater than any accusation. He knows all things. When we confess our sins, forgiveness can take care of the isolation, accusations, and discouragement that guilt creates. Because God already knows all of our sin and is greater than any guilt we have burdening us but loves us anyway, we can be free and confident to be ourselves.
