Bamburgh, Northumberland. Windswept, sometimes bleak but always stunning.

This dates from about 2005. I had access to a beautiful Classical bass guitar with a quite unique sound.

The pieces were passed to me by the late Chris Kilvington, a teacher, writer for Classical Guitar Magazine. Four pieces composed by Jacinto Freire Camacho in 1982. They are dedicated to his teachers Carlos Bonilla and Cesar Leon at the Conservatoire of Music in Quito, Ecuador. 

The full titles of the pieces are :

1. IMPROMPTU - Pasillo ( Originally a Colombian Andes form - so I'm told - which spread to Ecuador and other regions ).
2. FIESTA CRIOLLA - Tonada . A Folk music style of Spain - Asturias and Cantabria are credited with its origins
3. YUMBO -  El Cotopaxi. Yumbo the folk music style -  subtitled "Cotopaxi " the active volcano about 50km from Quito
4. SAN JUAN - Bailecito ( a dance ). San Juan villages / towns appear regularly - the one in Ecuador is in a rural region .

Lovely pieces drawing on elements of all the South American guitar composers I've come across. Certainly there are elements of Villa Lobos from Brazil, Barrios from Paraguay, Ponce from Mexico and Lauro from Venezuela clearly and beautifully incorporated.

Not only is the landscape in Ireland and Galicia  a bit similar but the music is ... I heard a bagpipe in Santiago de Compostela I think its called the Galician gaita which sounds not so dissimilar to the Irish Uilleann pipes. 
This is a tune which was written in Spain and reflects that Irish/Galicia link - it also reflects a little of the cross string playing of Pierre Bensusan and in particular his piece the Last Pint.

Written for 4 of us to play - Matt, Rob and Jack all play guitar. We just haven't had a chance to learn it or play it yet. The chord sequence was based on a Dominic Miller idea although its in different key and its rhythmically different. I think that just about covers it.

Visa fran Utanmyra translates as Song from Utanmyra.
Its an arrangement of a tune from Jan Johansons 1964 album " Jazz pa Svenska"

Influenced by the Fool on the Hill. This was written in lockdown when I was in Madrid and quite keen to get out to our place in Asturias, in a village called Turuelles near Luarca.
