This is National Police Appreciation Week.  It's time to thank those individuals who put their lives on the line so we can sleep at night.  With all of the talk about defunding the police and focusing on the extremely few who violate trust, it's time to say thanks to the good guys.

We need more police and not fewer.  Officers are retiring at a rapid rate as Boomers and older Gen-Xers hit retirement age.  That's in addition to officers in large cities who have given up. 

Most communities in the country outside of the big metros appreciate their police officers.   Crime rates are impacted by the lack of effective policing and prosecution.  This is not a political topic.

People over-bought during COVID, they are now offering their fully furnished vacation rental properties at discounted prices.   True, vacation rental income is down from last year and 2021.  If you are looking for a property for your family to use as a true vacation home, now is the time to buy vacation rental property.

You can earn some income from your vacation home while you are away but current economics do not work well for financed properties.  It's best that you pay cash or understand that any income should be considered extra.  Imagine, you walk into a renovated property fully set up and the prior owner "gives away" the furnishings.

Love bugs are flying insect found in the deep South.  They swarm twice a year from the end of April through May and from the end of August through early October.  They don't bite but can cause some damage to your car.

Mortgage interest rates in the 6% range are normal!  During the past five decades mortgage interest rates have gone from a low of about 3% to a high of about 17%.  The typical range is between 6-8%.

Depending upon your generation, you may think rates are very high, high, normal or low.  Don't let your past experience dictate if you will or will not buy a house now.

How is it possible that as your credit score increases you will pay more in interest?  That's because someone else who did not care enough to keep a good credit score needs your help.  Your government just decided without legislation that they want to put more lower-income people into houses, somewhat can not afford them.

You will be subsidizing these other people by paying more for being a better credit risk.  This is an oxymoron.  What planet are we living on?  Listen as we discuss the issue.

Why pay rent at a rate that is higher than the cost of a mortgage payment?  It makes no sense when you are 20 years from retirement and trying to save money.  Not only can you save tens of thousands of dollars by owning your own home but the equity is part of your retirement nest egg.

If you have seen one of these grasshoppers, you will know what we are talking about.  Some say they are so big that a few of them can carry away your kids.  They are big, and ugly and serve no purpose except to eat your plants.

These grasshoppers have no natural enemy.  They can kill birds that eat them including small animals as well.  As adults, they are almost unkillable.  You will have to pour a pint of pesticide on one to kill it.
