Ten years ago this month, we decided to spend the day cooking up a storm, open up our second floor apartment to any hungry soul who wandered in and invite some of our most talented friends to play them some songs. It quickly grew into a monthly gathering that came to be known as Nightshade Kitchen.
I wrote this song around that era, in an epicurean fog of charred chili peppers and simmering broth, lithesome harmonies, howls of laughter and other heady influences. It never saw the light of day then so I figured now was as good a time as any to share.
While Nightshade Kitchen mostly deals in “good food” these days—just one third of our mantra, we will forever be grateful for all the “good music” and “good company” over the years. A wagonload of thanks to all those who lent a hand across countless shows in living rooms and other odd spaces, five music festivals and one cookbook.
This little tribute is all yours. Hope it leaves you humming a sweet tune with a head full of love and a hankering to pass it on to others.
