  • Ethical Leadership: Integrity, Influence, and the Choices We Make | 029

An understandable delay. A request to change the date. A leadership decision that mattered beyond the form.

When Dr. Sheila Cornea was asked to backdate documentation, her response affected more than the paperwork. Staff members were watching, and the decision communicated something about what they could expect from her leadership.

In this episode of Gutsy Grace Leaders™, Sheila shares an edited portion of a presentation prepared for the HR + Safety Congress Virtual Summit, with a new introduction and closing reflection for Christian women leaders.

Explore how integrity and influence work together, why loyalty and familiarity can complicate judgment, and how to address a concern with honesty and respect. These are practical considerations for anyone carrying responsibility in a business, ministry, nonprofit, or team.

    IN THIS EPISODE:
    • Recognize the pressures that can affect ethical decisions.
    • Use five questions to examine facts, assumptions, and proposed actions.
    • Take responsibility when your own decision needs correcting.
    • Use your expertise, relationships, and voice to strengthen the decisions around you.

    FAITH IN ACTION:
Bring one conversation or unfinished responsibility before the Lord. Ask for wisdom about your part in it, then identify a responsible next step.

If a woman you work with or serve alongside came to mind, send her this episode. It could give you a useful place to begin a conversation together.

With thanks to Anna Marie Prim and the HR + Safety Congress team for the opportunity to contribute to the Virtual Summit, and to our emcee, Alan Utley, for thoughtfully guiding our live conversation. If you work in HR, I encourage you to connect with Anna Marie and the HR + Safety Congress on LinkedIn.

  • You Have More Than One Good Idea. How Do You Choose? | 028

You don’t have to make one idea wrong to give another one your attention.

When several possibilities fit your gifts and calling, choosing what to pursue takes more than deciding which one sounds most exciting. You need a way to consider what each idea would make possible—and what your yes would include.

In this episode of Gutsy Grace Leaders, Dr. Sheila Cornea brings faith and strategy to choosing between good ideas. Explore how your vision, values, and virtues inform the decision, then use Decision Mapping to consider possible pathways, trade-offs, partnerships, and next moves.

You may discover a clear priority. You may also discover that your ideas connect in ways you hadn’t considered.

    IN THIS EPISODE:
    • Get underneath an idea to the conviction it serves.
    • Use your values to shape the work and recognize the virtues it will require.
    • Map what each option makes possible, requires, and leaves unanswered.
    • Choose a practical next move without needing certainty about every outcome.

    FAITH IN ACTION:
Put two or three ideas on one page. Name the conviction you want the work to serve, the values you want to honor, and the virtues you’ll need to practice. Then choose one next move.

    SCRIPTURES REFERENCED:
“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” — Proverbs 16:9, ESV

  • Calling vs. Assignment: Recognizing the Thread in Your Work | 027

You can be doing very different work in different seasons and still be answering the same call.

Your calling may be expressed through professional work, ministry, something you create, or a relationship that never comes with a title. Recognizing what connects those assignments can help you appreciate what God has already been doing through your life—and consider where that contribution might belong next.

In this episode of Gutsy Grace Leaders™, Dr. Sheila Cornea explores the distinction between calling and assignment. Through Joseph’s story, the breadth of Dolly Parton’s work, and reflections on her own leadership journey, she offers a practical way to recognize the capabilities and contributions that recur across different settings.

    IN THIS EPISODE

    • How calling and assignment relate—and why one calling can have several expressions.
    • What Joseph’s changing circumstances reveal about responsibility, discernment, and contribution.
    • How creativity, partnership, and relationships can give meaningful work different forms.
    • A reflection exercise to help you recognize the thread in your own experience.

    FAITH IN ACTION

Choose three or four assignments you’ve carried. Write down what you actually did, the capabilities that work expressed, and what people received because you were involved. Look for recurring contributions, then bring what you notice into prayer.

Begin with this working sentence: One thread I recognize in my calling is…

    SCRIPTURES REFERENCED

“And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors.”
    — Genesis 45:7, English Standard Version

Joseph’s story in Genesis 39–41 also informs the conversation.

    RESOURCES MENTIONED

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Dollywood Foundation are discussed as examples of contribution through different assignments. The reflection exercise is explained within the episode; no separate download is required.

  • Maybe It’s Not Over: How to Know What Still Belongs | 026

What do you do when something you were once really clear about starts to feel a little vague?

Maybe the role doesn’t fit quite the same anymore. Maybe the project lost momentum. Or maybe you still care deeply about the work, but you can tell something is shifting.

In this episode, we’re talking about how to know what still belongs, why losing momentum doesn’t necessarily mean losing the assignment, and how to move forward without automatically starting over.

    IN THIS EPISODE

    • Why Losing Momentum Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Losing the Assignment
    • How to Hold What God Has Entrusted to You Faithfully Without Holding It Too Tightly
    • What Happens When Work and Identity Become Entangled
    • How to Recognize What Still Belongs Before Rushing Toward What’s Next

  • Why Your Leadership Feels Off Right Now (And What To Do About It) | 025

Sometimes the issue isn’t that your vision is wrong. It may be that something in the way you’re carrying, pacing, or approaching the work needs attention.

In this episode, Sheila talks about the tension that can show up in the middle of a season and why the answer isn’t always to push harder or start over. Sometimes what you need is a reset: space to notice what’s shifted, release what no longer fits, and realign with what matters most.

    IN THIS EPISODE

    • Why tension between vision and reality can be part of growth
    • The difference between a restart and a reset
    • How to recognize and honor a season of transition
    • Why pushing through is not always the wisest response
    • How isolation can affect the way you carry leadership

    FAITH IN ACTION

What feels off right now, and what might that be revealing?

Do I need a new plan, or do I need a reset in the way I’m carrying this one?

    SCRIPTURES REFERENCED

    • Habakkuk 2:2 ESV
“And the LORD answered me: ‘Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.’”

    • Isaiah 30:15 ESV
“For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.’ But you were unwilling,”

    • Hebrews 12:1 ESV
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”
