President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe as Acting Police Minister with immediate effect. He'll hold the role until Professor Firoz Cachalia steps in from August, following his retirement from Wits University. Meanwhile, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has confirmed that his deputy, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, is on leave.
