Summer showcase season is officially in the books — and Greg, Ty, and Uly have receipts.

This week, the crew digs into the data behind all the hype: which games actually won Summer Game Fest according to Steam wishlist numbers and search trends, and why the top three spots all went to remakes and sequels. Code Veronica taking the #1 wishlist spot gets the full breakdown — Ty explains why the game's weird place in Resident Evil canon is exactly the reason people are losing their minds over it, and the crew goes deep on how RE4 and Code Veronica's release timeline essentially screwed Capcom's own franchise order. Ocarina of Time, Persona 6, Insomniac's Wolverine, Gears of War: E-Day, Kingdom Hearts, and Spyro all get their moment.

Then things get real when Greg drops the number: Gears of War: E-Day reportedly cost $400 million to make. The crew breaks down why that figure is almost impossible to recoup — comparing it to Spider-Man 2's $300M budget, which needed 7.2 million copies at full price to break even, against Gears of War II's total lifetime sales of 6.75 million copies ever. Factor in that the game launches Day 1 on Game Pass, Xbox's recent price drop, and that Microsoft is quietly aging out its console ambitions — and this gets uncomfortable fast.

Bungie just shut down Destiny 2. The final live service update — Monument of Triumph — drops June 9, 2026, and after that, active development is over. All future expansions are canceled. Significant layoffs are coming. And Destiny 3 is not in development. This is the full breakdown.

On this episode of GZ Chop Shop, Gregory, Uly, and Ty go deep on the collapse of one of gaming's most ambitious live service games and what it means for Bungie as a studio going forward. This isn't just a news recap — it's the full story. We trace Bungie's journey from a Mac gaming startup in 1991, through the creation of Marathon, the Microsoft acquisition that turned Halo into the Xbox killer app, the split from Microsoft, the Activision publishing deal, and the birth of Destiny in 2014. Then we cover everything that followed: Destiny 2's rocky 2017 launch, the controversial move to free-to-play, the expansion highs and lows, Lightfall's quality miss, the 2023 and 2024 layoff waves, and Sony's $3.6 billion acquisition that has now resulted in a $765 million write-down.

First up: after three years of community hunting, Diablo 4's legendary secret Cow Level has finally been found — but is the payoff worth all that effort? The guys debate whether Blizzard should have done more with one of the franchise's most iconic traditions, and break down exactly how to unlock it (spoiler: you need to beat Lord of Hatred first and kill 666 cows).

Then it's over to Xbox, where new CEO Asha Sharma is making moves fast. Game Pass Ultimate just dropped from $29.99 to $22.99 a month, Call of Duty is no longer a day-one title on the service, and the leadership deck is getting reshuffled. Is this the reset Xbox needed — or just a honeymoon phase?
