Audrey Wong’s TEDx Talk, Healing Trauma Through the Lens of Computer Science (Original Unedited audio recording). This was recorded in a private studio and not the live event.
Computer science enables us to troubleshoot, trace back to the root cause of a problem, understand where a bug is coming from, and make order from chaos through thoughtful analysis. We can learn how to debug ourselves from trauma by using computer science modalities.
Most limitations and self-sabotage we inflict on ourselves has to do with childhood trauma. Instead of responding to the world around us as high-functioning adults operating from a place of compassion, our inner child emerges and we react based on trauma-informed instinct. Science shows that memories are stored in our bodies, and we recreate our childhood experiences when something triggers us by subconsciously reminding us of a negative time in our lives. We can learn how to debug ourselves from this trauma by using computer science modalities. Computer science enables us to troubleshoot, trace back to the root cause of a problem, understand where a bug is coming from, and make order from chaos through thoughtful analysis. Debugging trauma is the perfect combination of spirituality and science, rooted in reconnecting ourselves to our bodies through breath and processing the emotions we store in our bodies. This quiets the mind when we do things like meditate and tap into our intuitive guidance, helping us align ourselves with our own soul journey and not conform to what others what us to do. Instead of our inner child controlling how we react in the world, we can learn to work with those memories and recreate a more highly functioning, less traumatic version of ourselves that enables us to respond to the world from a place of maturity.
