Hi there!
Welcome to our podcast, and our very first recording! Let me introduce you to who we are, and set the scene a bit for you.
We are Haggis and Dragons, and we wanted to take a few minutes to give you backstory, this should only be a few minutes long, and gives you an idea of what’s to come.
This is a homebrew world based on the Dungeons and Dragons 5e system, and the machinations of Mick, Ross, Bucky, Mark and myself; Paddy, your dungeon master.
After Llanothar returned to the northern forests, and deciding to live alone following the death of his wife, at the hands of the Jackals army, he left his own bodyguard, the Emperor’s Chosen, along with the remnants of his military force; the aptly named 42, to defend the one thing he treasured most; his one and only son, atop the most defensible position, with his most trusted allies. Llanothar became a thing of legend, roaming the northern forests, hunting Jackals, with cold determination.
... 50 years have passed since that day, and in that time, Llanothar’s son, Myantir, has grown to be a competent, though arrogant and reckless ruler. Taking audience with new advisors, new counsel, which has frayed his relationships with the Dwarves to the East, his neighbours from Obaerron to the west, and all men, dwaf, and elf in between.
During a great feast, to mark the anniversary of the defense of Erivone against the Jackals, Emperor Myantir decided to mock and make fun of the Dwarven King Kannobar of Dun Erikyn, demanding he stand up when addressing the ruler of erivone on high, and suggesting he reaches for a step stool during a toast.
The insults continued, and Myantir’s attitudes and dismissing of all of his allies, resulted in skirmish, that would turn to a conflict, that would, as our player characters learn, become a war, for nothing but frustration, on the very fields of peace, of where the battle was won 200 years prior.
Lord Harold Buxton of Obaerron, King Kannobar of Dun Erikyn, Percival Bograthil of Porta Rossa, and Sanika Moray of the southern villages came together, in unison against Myantir, and demanded an apology for his attitude, which unfortunately, resulted in the death of more than 20,000 souls on the Valley of Roses.
The battle of the valley of roses, a conflict not fought against demon or jackal or troll, but was now a conflict of friends, neighbours and once allied races, now split, as no one claimed victory on that day. And indeed on that Day, Myantir, his bodyguard, and the elite 42, sat atop Erivone and watched the entire devastation of their forces.
A now rusted wasteland, stained with the taint of blood, broken families, and careless loss of life, all because of one Emperor’s arrogance, has brought everyone to truly believe… The Emperor has indeed, gone mad.
On the fields, on this day, our player characters died.
Slain needlessly, as I introduce you briefly to these brave heroes.
Harold Bograthil, Descendant of Percival, and favoured son and Bard of Porta Rossa. His life stopped short, by swift decapitation
Ivor Drannor. Of the temple of Moradin, cleric and healer, riddled by Crossbows bolts whilst trying to defend fallen troops, and bring them aid.
Bjorg Stoneaxe, Miner, son of Erivone, and one who barely spent any of his young in the light at all, had his lights knocked out permanently, by a great crushing blow from a club, which he never recovered from.
And Krusk Bear Slayer. Mercenary, still grieving from the loss of his mother to a great black bear, was himself skewered by a huge spear from behind, a horrendous way for a mighty barbarian to fall.
And so, our adventure begins… in the way that it should, as Episode 1 will soon begin with the phrase…
You wake Up
