At almost 12 years old, Joy leaves her family, friends, and beloved coach, Joanne Bockian (Episode 2: Unsung Hero) and moves to Sacramento, CA to train at Pozsar's Gymnastics. As a boarding gymnast, she must create a new life and deal with "harsh" coaching all alone.

1989-1990. Laura bounces back from injury to victory. However, as her career rises, the influence of total-control coaching gradually brews catastrophe, ultimately forcing her to retire from her beloved sport and Group 1 at a mere 12-years-old.

1987. 19-year-old Natalie Grace Segundo uproots her life in Southern California to become her 9-year-old sister's guardian in Houston, Texas. In 1987*, 9-year-old Laura and 19-year-old Natalie leave their family to move to Houston, Texas, where Laura begins training at Karolyis Gymnastics. What starts as a dreamy playground evolves into a harsh reality that starts to change the young child forever.
