We’ve all seen this in films: the protagonist has manoeuvred themself into a hopeless situation involving some nasty villains. But despair or naivety can get you into much less threatening yet still devastating circumstances, like an unwanted job or unpleasant relationships. Will you make it out? Is that in your hands? A gloomy, wet and rainy car park sets the scene for the song, that is driven forward by rolling toms, distorted guitars, a stomping chorus groove and ends in a heavy finale.

If something starts, must it also end? Do all things have to change? Are we really breaking up? Hallam London, slightly otherworldly, close to humanity but still not part of it, is asking difficult questions in this vigorous indie rock song. Does he know the answers? As contradictory as Hallam himself, End of Days is uplifting but also dark and aggressive. It’s a sunny afternoon in the park when the world happens to be ending.

The centuries old idea of a changeling – a fairy left in place of a stolen human child – has never died. We don’t call it that anymore but we still make people feel different, if only because they are unusual … but “unusual” is where we find the extraordinary people. So what if there were no “normal”? Just as off-centre as the changeling is the song’s combination of a heavy up-tempo beat with melancholic chords and melodies.

A poem by Ian Badcoe about the bubbles on bubbles that humanity has been blowing over the centuries: system on system built on all too finite natural resources, but acting as if they would last forever. Bubbles in the economic sense, working fine while they stumble along, but hollow if you look too close, and building up huge ecological and social impacts for when they fail. This issue has been of great importance to me for a long time and so I have taken up the challenge and set the poem to music; creating a haunting and tragic message that many won't find comfortable, but which no-one can really ignore.
