He performed before imperial courts at six. He produced over six hundred works in thirty five years. He joined the Freemasons in 1784 and found in the lodge the brotherhood that the courts had never given him.

His last opera, The Magic Flute, was an allegory of Masonic initiation encoded in a fairy tale. He conducted the premiere sixty six days before his death. He died on the fifth of December 1791 leaving his Requiem unfinished.

He was thirty five years old. He believed he was writing it for himself. He was right. This is his story.

His name was Oskar Schindler. He was born on the twenty eighth of April 1908 in Moravia, now the Czech Republic. He was a greedy opportunist, a German spy, a member of the Nazi Party, a serial adulterer, and a man who repeatedly failed to repay his debts.

He came to Kraków in 1939 to get rich from the war. He employed Jewish workers from the ghetto because they were cheaper. He witnessed the liquidation of the Kraków ghetto in March 1943. He spent the rest of the war spending everything he had made to keep his workers alive.

He spent approximately four million German marks. He saved approximately twelve hundred lives. He ended the war penniless. He spent the rest of his life being supported by the people he had saved.

He is the only member of the Nazi Party buried on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. This is the most contradicted story of transformation this series has produced.

Her name was Cecilia. She was a Roman noblewoman of the third century. She is the patron saint of music and musicians. The tradition says she sang in her heart to God at her wedding while the musicians played around her. A

medieval misreading of that line produced the image of a woman playing an organ. The image of Cecilia with an organ became one of the most painted subjects in the history of Western art. She probably never played one.

She was beheaded after surviving suffocation. The executioner struck three times without severing her head. She lived for three days. In 1599 her body was found incorrupt in the exact position in which she had died. The sculptor Stefano Maderno carved her immediately after. His marble figure lies on the floor of the basilica in Trastevere.

He was born Shinmen Bennosuke around 1584 in the Harima Province of Japan. He killed a man in single combat at thirteen years old. He was undefeated in over sixty duels.

His most famous duel, against the master swordsman Sasaki Kojiro in 1612, \he fought with a wooden sword he had carved from an oar on the boat to the island. He arrived deliberately late. He killed Kojiro in seconds.

He never fought another duel. He retreated to a cave. He wrote The Book of Five Rings. He died on the thirteenth of June 1645.

At the moment of death he raised himself up, tightened his belt, placed his sword in it, and sat upright. He was the sword saint of Japan. This is his story.

His name was Albert Pike. He was born in Boston in 1809 and accepted into Harvard, but could not afford the tuition. He walked to Arkansas and reinvented himself as a lawyer, poet, and journalist. He joined the Freemasons in 1850.

He became Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite in 1859 and held it until his death. He wrote Morals and Dogma in 1871, nearly nine hundred pages drawing on Kabbalah, ancient Egypt, Zoroastrianism, Hermeticism, and Gnosticism, the most intellectually ambitious work in the history of American Freemasonry.

He was also a Confederate general. He likely helped found the Ku Klux Klan. He wrote poetry about the Klan's vengeance.

His statue in Washington was toppled in 2020. His Masonic writings are still studied. Both things are true. This is the most contradicted man this series has examined.

The weight struck her skull. She suffered narcoleptic seizures and visions for the rest of her life. She believed the visions were from God. She escaped slavery alone in eighteen forty nine. She then went back. Thirteen times. She personally led approximately seventy people to freedom.

The bounty on her head reached forty thousand dollars. She was never caught. She never lost a passenger. She died on the tenth of March nineteen thirteen in Auburn, New York. She was approximately ninety one years old.

Her last words were: I go to prepare a place for you. This is her story.

Teaching Latin at thirteen. In seventeenth century colonial Mexico a woman had two choices, marriage or a convent. She chose the convent. Not from religious vocation. Because it was the only way she could be free to study.

She built one of the largest private libraries in the New World inside her cell. She became the first published feminist of the Americas. In 1694 the Church forced her to sell her books, her instruments, and her scientific equipment. She signed her submission in her own blood.

She wrote: I, the worst in the world. She died the following year tending to plague victims in her convent. She was forty four years old. Her face is on the Mexican two hundred peso note. This is her story.

She manoeuvred her way to empress in 655. After her husband suffered a stroke in 660 she effectively ran the Chinese empire. For forty five years. In 690 she declared herself Emperor, the only woman in Chinese history to hold that title, and founded her own dynasty.

She invented a new Chinese character for her own name meaning light shining from the sky. She expanded the civil examination system to include commoners. She gave the entire empire a tax-free year.

She was forced to abdicate at eighty years old. She died sixteen days later. Her gravestone has no inscription. She said history would judge her better than she could judge herself. This is her story.
