The Hamilton High School DECA program recently received a total of 57 medals at the District III DECA Conference at Western Michigan University. DECA Advisor Dan Meiste talks about what the business-focused club - the largest student organization in the world - offers to students and how it aligns with the high school business department curriculum.

The tenth "Hamilton: The Story of Us" episode features Hamilton Student Services Director Sara McIntyre. In this episode, McIntyre shares how her department is working with the school community, the home community, and community agencies to learn about new programs they are developing. This approach will ensure no groups are working in silos and duplicating efforts. Services to students will increase and improve as a result. She also discusses how her department ensures each student will thrive in Hamilton Community Schools.

The ninth "Hamilton: The Story of Us" episode features Hamilton Football Coach Phil Koops. In this episode, Koops shares how he wants Hamilton Football to be competitive with everyone they play and how he wants the team to represent the community well.

The seventh "Hamilton: The Story of Us" episode features Hamilton High Yearbook Advisor Katie Jarvis. In this episode, she shares how the class offers students a safe space to meet new people and learn to work well with them. These soft skills are crucial when students reach the workforce.

The sixth "Hamilton: The Story of Us" episode features Hamilton Athletic Director Eric Talsma. In this episode, he shares his vision for developing student leaders within the Hamilton Athletic Department. The first step in that direction was sending athletes to a leadership training at Hope College in early November.

The fifth "Hamilton: The Story of Us" episode features Hamilton High Counselor Lauren Robinson. In this episode, she talks about her experience with Hamilton's German Exchange Program and how it has opened the eyes of students since it started in 1982. The strong partnership with a school in Germany has resulted in regular trips between the two countries before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fourth "Hamilton: The Story of Us" episode features Hamilton Wellness Coordinator Brian Palmer. In this episode, he talks about the non-toxic approach to wellness, a focus on mindset rather than just numbers. Using this mindset, the emerging Hamilton Wellness program has helped the Hamilton community become a healthier one.

The third "Hamilton: The Story of Us" episode features Hamilton Physical Education Teacher Steve Sikma. He has watched PE grow and develop and evolve into a robust program that goes beyond the traditional team sports. In fact, these days, it truly helps each student thrive by pointing them to their strengths and weaknesses. Enjoy this clip about why PE forces students to explore their courage!

Our second episode features Hamilton graduate and longtime wrestling coach Gregg Stoel. He talks about the strong tradition of Hamilton Wrestling, a program his father started and a program he became a state champion in. He will retire in June 2022. "It was like winning the lottery for me," he said about Hamilton hiring him.
