  • Episode 2: Meet Gwen

    Hi guys!!

I’m Gwen the other half of HMU. In the 1st episode I interviewed Rue so in our 2nd episode it was only natural for Rue to interview me. I share the journey from my A-levels to Undergraduate and to Masters. Whilst this podcast is about the PhD journey we think it’s important you know our academic backgrounds prior to pursuing a PhD. If you can learn some random interesting facts about us along the way, then even better! No one journey is the same but I hope sharing my journey as a child of a Zimbabwean immigrant in the UK will be of help and inspiration to someone no matter where you are in your academic journey.

  • Episode 1: Meet Rue

"Hi all, my name is Rutendo, one half of HMU. In this episode, Gwen interviews me, and drills down to get a deeper understanding of my journey on the Undergraduate and Masters programmes, and how those experiences led to my PhD studies. The discussion on the Undergraduate and Masters programme canvases my motivations, the difficulties I encountered and finally; the experiences that drove my desire to pursue further education and the realities of being an international student. As such, this episode gives context to the experiences and reasons that inform why and how I eventually wound up considering and embarking on a PhD study."
