Jeff runs a service called Dialogue Doctor by night and works for a tech company Simmersion  by day.  Simmersion is a business that simulates difficult conversations for professionals to work with.  Jeff leads the writing team.  He sits down with world experts and as a professional mimick, he produces zoom like videos with Artificial Intelligence which are used to help people simulate difficult conversations.  This is where he began his ghostwriting and novels.  Jeff has 10 novels out, including two series - one mystery and the other urban fantasy.

One of the areas they deal with is Suicide Prevention.  He says when talking to someone who has suicidal ideations, you need to practice the critical conversation.  Jeff says that the skills he hones during the day transfer into his novels.

Jeff said he learned that it was important to network with other authors.  After "taking" from the community, he decided it was time to give back.  He began teaching how to write dialogue to authors.  He has just finished a 20 week master course.  He has a free podcast and newsletter that you can get at dialoguedoctor.com.   Jeff says dialogue is what engages the characters in the story.  It is how we connect - through conversation.

Jeff worked as a preacher for 15 years before becoming a writer.  He said he learned so much more when he had to teach something then when he sat in a class.  So when he was teaching his master course he said he too was learning.  Dialogue Daisy is one concept he created for the course and it is available on dialoguedoctor.com as well.  He says it has to do with going from the roots, to the stem and then to the blossom of a character's voice, and the components and how to build them as a character.

We discussed words to avoid like the "but" and "actually" both of which are used so often by people without knowledge of the impact they have.  Writing dialogue is about using words strategically.  Jeff gave examples of words from an antagonist to a protagonist, and vice versa, which was really interesting!

Jeff shared with us that he was dyslexic as a child and avoided english at any cost.  As a high achiever, the only class he failed in College was English, and this was discouraging.  However, he persevered and an experience where he was sitting in a Deacon's meeting changed his life.  At the end he was asked to write everything down from the meeting in a pamphlet.  Jeff wrote a 30 page pamphlet and was told he should write more.  He went online and took a course at https://thewritepractice.com and started writing short stories, and hence began his writing career.

When asked if he was now doing something he loves, he said he was "doing something he loves to do, and something that loves him back".

Very interesting conversation of hybrid cultural centre models. Mark says that people are 12% more productive when they are engaged. He says that heads-down jobs work fine at home, but if you are managing a family and don’t have a home office, going to an office would be more productive.  The future workplace would be a place to rent where you can engage and use the amenities, such as a gym, or daycare, depending on the companies mission and values.  Mark stated that the focus is turning more from ROI (return on investment) to VOI (value on investment).

Mark is a Certified Futurist who looks for signals and drivers. For example, if the pandemic is a driver, working from home is a signal. He says we call the pandemic the great accelerator because its more rapidly moving what was already happening. He also spoke to the pivot, such as breweries that would turn their processes into making hand sanitizers; having that second modality, that pivot, to be able to still thrive and survive.  

Mark is also a wellness and mental health advocate.  He said that one of the great things that happened because of the pandemic was the ability to be able to have the conversation about mental health.  Prior to the pandemic, his company conducted research on respite, mindset and resiliency and created a place called the restpite room, which could calm anxiety within 30 minutes. People are much more aware of their mental health now and are trying to do new things. 

Mark mentions that one of their social responsibility partners is A Kid Again, an organization that provides recreational therapy to improve the lives of children with life -threatening conditions and their families.  One of the things they talked about together was how to make better restrooms, such as for parents who have 13 or 14 year olds with disabilities who need to lay their child down, and having safe spaces that can be accessible to all. 

Mark discussed that on days when we don't take breaks and we pull all-nighters, we are much less productive.  He says it is important to take those breaks, which is another reason for the respite and resting rooms.

"I watched my father work 60 hour weeks, come home, make dinner, take maybe one vacation a  year."  This was what inspired Chris at a young age to start asking questions.  He observed and took notes on those who were running their own business, driving nice cars and had time to spend doing what they liked.  The entrepreneurs.

Although Chris appeciated his father, he also knew there was more out there. 

At the age of 12, Chris began his entrepreneurial journey going door to door to ask to mow lawns to support himself financially.   His educational pursuit led him to graduating from Clemson University with a business and entrepreneurship major.

Upon graduation he became an Account Manager where he "streamlined relationships with hundreds of Fortune 500 clients.  Now an Executive Director for a firm making annual economic business intelligence reports, Chris is also the Founder of the Next Level Minds podcast and a Co-Founder of a mobile B2B travel app based out of Charleston, SC.

Chris' passion for business is what led him to become a podcaster.  He interviews successful entrepreneurs, sharing the in-between of the A to Z.   We discussed the importance of relationship building.  As Chris states "it's best to be a friend before a salesperson".

Although Millenials have their share of criticism, Chris makes it clear that there are the ones that have given up, looking at the future economic landscape and feeling overwhelmed.  And then there are the "mover sand shakers".  Chris is the latter. 

The truth is, there is not one generation where there haven't been both of those.  However, with the Millenials now the new generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders, eyes are on them.   And it is those who are like Chris, who pay attention, take notes, have a passion and drive for what they are doing who will succeed and be the "Elon Musks" for the next generation to take notes on.

What inspired Jetty to become an Influencer?

Jetty remembers wanting to be a model when she was younger.  She received her certification as a Make Up Artist while in the Neatherlands, and although she had her dreams to make it big, she always felt she was not "good enough".

 "The people around me were always bigger," Jetty says, that she always did things "small" due to that feeling.  This is a common perception women have.  Feeling small.  Thinking what we do is small.  It was part of her journey towards her today.  She says she no longer thinks small and now wants to go big.  Jetty shared that she struggled with bulimia and had lime disease for five years.  The latter, she explains, was an awakening in that she felt she had a second chance in life. 

From an online fitness coach, Jetty is now focussing on being an Influencer regarding empowerment and truth.  Hence the name of her business "TruJetty".  She wants to speak the truth, stop being someone other than who she is just to please other people.  "It was hard to say 'no', but once you say it once, it gets easier."  A "people pleaser" from youth, Jetty feels this was also a roadblock to success and realized it had to go.

Jetty spoke to her childhood as a daughter of a farmer and being bullied as the "stinky farm girl."  It was a tough time, yet she smiles when she mentions the irony of marrying a "passionate farm boy" and that her 19 year old son is following his father's footsteps with a desire to take over the family business once he has completed his education.

What inspired Jetty to become an Influencer?

In our Podcast we didn't really didn't have the opportunity to touch on Sarah's background, however we thought it was worth mentioning in these notes.

On her website sarahsantacroce.com, Sarah describes herself as " I’m a Hippie turned Business Coach"  She goes on to share the following:  "I grew up in a peace & love environment called the Colombina, a community living experience co-owned by my parents and their friends. It was normal to me, but abnormal to everyone else.  I was taught early on that I was very privileged to be born in a society that has everything and that this privilege came with a responsibility: take care of our world and take care of those who are not as privileged as me."

Sarah explains that the 'gentle business revolution" is a call for more empathy and kindness in the business world.  We brought up the "guerilla marketing" and equated it to a "gorilla" in regards to the sounding the same and the "gorilla" being a very powerful animal, however, not equated to "kind and empathetic."  Sarah says it should be a gentler animal sound.

Human connection is something that seems to have been slowly eliminated from the business world.  Through the time of COVID, people have had more time to be aware of the intrusive nature of those marketing.  The initiation of building a relationship has not been as apparent.

Sarah has a LinkedIn consulting business for over 12 years and trains them to build the personalized connection, yet still finds that there are competitors that have created a method of "mass" connections, which takes away from the "human aspect" of the messages.

We have to slow down, Sarah explains.  Everyone wants everything so fast these days.  We need to be gentle.

Not unlike many people out there who were in a corporate environment that dealt with the public, Kim too needed to change the way things were when her position as an Event Manager organizing live events was shattered by the pandemic.

It was at this time that Kim decided to take her "side hussle" and turn it into her main career.  Once a blog for her own stories, ideas and a showcase for her portfolio, Kim's blog site Girls Got Goals PH became her new business.  She reached out to one of her existing clients asking why the blogs she sent were not posted.  The client confirmed that she loved the content, however did not have time to post.  This was the start of Kim's Social Media Management business named after her blog.  She offered to take care of her client's content.  From there her client referred her to another client, and that client to another and so forth.

Kim writes, creates videos and marketing photos, edits, and ensures the content is up to date regarding SEO requirements.  Asked if she took formal training, Kim states that she learned primarily on the Internet from crash courses and research.  She says that those taking form college courses are often at a disadvantage, as by the time they graduate the online landscape has already gone through several changes.
