Our world and our understanding of life comes up short. The only way to understand the world is to go vertically.

The gospel is like jazz. It doesn't seem to resolve. Sometimes in life you must see someone being in love with something before you can fall in love with it yourself. Sometimes the things you want most in life will kill you. And sometimes, we confuse spiritual growth with self-sufficiency. Success as a Christian is utter dependance on Jesus. The Bible is not a manual, but a story about God's faithful love.

Presence is more meaningful than answers when you're in a situation where you don't understand or can't see what's going on. God was with Joseph through all his difficulties.
