Happily Ever Aftermath

We welcome friend and non-scientifically proven biggest fan of the podcast Paul Westwater and his pick Highlander (1986). He brings stories of the movie being filmed where he grew up, being on set, and how to find his mom in the movie as an extra. And of course there was Queen talk.

Check out Paul's band Urban Hymns and follow them on Facebook.

Note: Highlander director Russell Mulcahy did direct the music video for Total Eclipse of the Heart.

An immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his immortal opponent, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled "Prize". Stars Christopher Lambert, Roxanne Hart, Clancy Brown, Sean Connery, Beatie Edney, Alan North, Sheila Gish, Jon Polito, and Hugh Quarshie. (from IMDb.com)

While wrapping up Hot August Knights with Polina's pick Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) we welcome back guest Ryan Skonnord. Much like the amazing fight choreography in the movie, we flex our creativity breaking apart this beautiful drama's famously ambiguous ending.

A young Chinese warrior steals a sword from a famed swordsman and then escapes into a world of romantic adventure with a mysterious man in the frontier of the nation. Stars Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi, Chen Chang, Sihung Lung, Cheng Pei-Pei, Fazeng Li, Xian Gao, Yan Hai, Deming Wang, Li Li, Suying Huang and directed by Ang Lee. (from IMDb.com)

We hereby dub this month Hot August Knights and begin with Diana's pick Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991). It should be no surprise that she continually gushes about Alan Rickman's Sheriff of Nottingham. Polina prefers Kevin Costner brooding in sports movies.

When Robin and his Moorish companion come to England and the tyranny of the Sheriff of Nottingham, he decides to fight back as an outlaw. Stars Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Christian Slater, Alan Rickman, Geraldine McEwan, Michael McShane, Brian Blessed, Michael Wincott, Nick Brimble, Soo Drouet, Walter Sparrow, Harold Innocent, and a cameo by Sir Sean Connery. Clear skies but we're still talking about Polina's pick Singin' in the Rain (1952). She chose this movie in an attempt to bring more joy into our lives. It only partially worked on Diana.

Check out former guest Alysa Lucas's podcast Best Forevers A Podcast For Kindred Spirits and the episode Diana mentioned about parasocial relationships.

A silent film production company and cast make a difficult transition to sound. Stars Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Jean Hagen, Millard Mitchell, Cyd Charisse, Douglas Fowley, and Rita Moreno. (from IMDb.com)

We're getting low on movies but still celebrate Jude-Ly with producer Ryan's pick Enemy at the Gates (2001). This war movie gave teenage Ryan an unexpected model of what to avoid to get a girl's attention. As tradition dictates, Meg is here to discuss some Jude Law. Polina and Diana could not be happier.

Follow Ryan on Twitter @RyanSkonnord and check out his guest spot on The Misplay.

Diana will never stop pointing out that in an unprecedented move for the podcast, Polina's pick Not Another Teen Movie (2001) is one Polina has never seen. It is later explained Polina just wanted to finally watch and talk about this movie Diana often references. What follows is the origin story of Diana's crush on Chris Evans.

Polina reads from Roger Ebert's review of the movie.

Ewan MAYGregor continues with Diana's pick Down With Love (2003). Meg's return was demanded and happily welcomed. Somehow this homage to Rock Hudson/Doris Day rom-coms was used as a springboard for a deep discussion about feminism.
