It's a beautiful day outside of Winstead Clothing Company in Clinton where I interviewed my friend, Jake. My sister met him first and knew him as "hammock dude." He is the only person that I've ever met that was intentionally homeless three different times, he used to own a farm, and now he owns a Subway in Jackson.
In my room at my house, I had the chance to interview one of my good friends, Rebecca: Growing up in a Christian household, there was a point where she had to decide if God was real or not. Rebecca knew that if God was real, she would have to change. Like most college students, Rebecca has also experienced loneliness. She came to the realization that not everyone is going to love you, want to be your friend, and you just can't please everybody. Her advice to you is err on the side of love and always be unconditionally kind.
Get to know Brooke: I love her and her love for people, she has moved 7 times, she used to work at a Baskin Robbins, after leaving home she had to learn how to keep God at the center of her life without the influence of her parents. She comes from a big family and knows the importance of being kind, and sometimes the smallest things have the biggest impact.
At a recording studio at Wesley Biblical Seminary, we get to know Elijah and hear his story. See what his childhood was like and how he came to be a pastor at Foundry Church. Know that you can change the world around you, and you should change the world around you. Be a utility player.
Sit outside a coffee shop with us and get to know Miriam: missionary kid, studying to be a social worker, she has experienced abuse, and she had to decide if she even wanted to get married, but God is faithful. Words of wisdom: read Let Me Be A Woman by Elizabeth Elliot and don't worry about what other people think of you. Just be someone that you can respect and admire.
Meet Brooke: identical twin, homeschooled Christian, and soon to be wife. How did this girl from Memphis end up at a church in Mississippi? Dont stress, talk to people. Find some balance, make a schedule if you need to. Life can be overwhelming but we dont have to do it alone. If you can't find community, make your own, it's worth it.
Josie is a ballerina from Colorado, naturally she loves mountains and hiking, it was a huge change of scenery moving to Mississippi, she had a mysterious illness that went undiagnosed for months, now she is strong and healthy and I'm glad she moved here so I had a chance to meet her.
Living room talks with Chance: small moments make all the difference, from hearing a song that changed his view on God, to an invitation to graduation that changed his relationship with his dad, as well as many small moments that led to his longing and pursuit of community. Chance's words of wisdom: Control your emotions rather than letting your emotions control you. And be selfless, your life will be richer because of it.
Office Talks with Justin: Interviewing Justin in Meredith's office, their love story from Justin's point of view, possibly damaged amygdala, apparently everyone should get married young.
Lunch talks with Lizzie: Partially Italian ballet dancer, has moved 12 times, creative and talented cook, she can make her own clothes, and she is nerdy. If you don't know her, you are seriously missing out.
