Cliff and Emily talk with Bob Ornelas and Melanie Williams just back from the California Bicycle Summit in Oakland. Both are supercharged about what they saw and learned at the summit and how this information can apply to trails projects here in Humboldt County.

Cliff and Emily talk with Melinda Ciarabellini, Dan Moody and Sheila Parrott about the Draft Transportation Safety Plan for the city of Eureka and the award of Bronze Bicycle Friendly City.

Cliff and Emily talk with Karen Diemer about the Coastal Commission, CalTrans and the progress of the Arcata to Eureka Bay Trail. Progress on the Arcata Ridge Trail is also discussed.

Cliff and Emily talk about where things stand with trails projects here in Humboldt County. Also the Rails To Trails Conservancy has a new guide for Rails With Trials and a large study regarding their safety. Plus a roundup of all other trails activities.

Cliff and Emily talk with Josh Levine with the RCAA about the Little River Trail and the potential expansion of the Hammond Trail across little river. There will be an outdoor public meeting tomorrow afternoon at 5:30 a the northern Little River State Beach Parking Lot. Public input is encouraged during this feasibility studying stage.

Cliff and Emily talk with Melanie Williams about Walk to School Day events throughout the county as well as Pedestrian and Bide Education in the schools.

Cliff and Emily talk with Louise Jensen of the Lassen Land and Trails Trust about the Bike Lassen Initiate the Bizz Johnson Trail & Rails to Trails Festival. The Bizz Johnson is the longest and oldest Rail Trail in California. On October 12 in Susanville they will celebrate the Rails to Trails Festival. Lassen has an extensive and well used trail system. Cliff and Emily talk with Bill Burton about the new 3 foot passing law just signed into law by Governor Brown. This was the 3rd attempt at getting this law passed. It is already law in about 21 other states. The bill in essence states that there must be at least 3 feet between a motor vehicle and a cyclist before it can pass the cyclist. Although this is a common sense law, it has be met with much controversy from the motoring public.

Cliff talks with Emily about the Coastal Commission's decision regarding Caltrans 101 safety corridor plans that now must include a trail to move forward. Also a discussion with Doug Rose, Humboldt Council for the Blind and accessible pedestrian signals.

Cliff and Emily with Jens Anderson of the McKinleyville Community Serves District Parks & Recreation Division about their recent Bike Rodeo, their trails in Hiller Park and other recreational activities. An update is also given about Arcata's failed bid for a Tiger Grant and what the next steps will be. Also a reminder about the Coastal Commission meeting coming up this Thursday, 8am in the Wharfinger Building along with several other important meetings this week.
