Series Title: Lessons from the Upper Room

Series Summary: On the night before his crucifixion, Jesus had one last meal with his disciples.  During that meal, he spent time giving them final instructions. In the Upper Room Discourse Jesus prepares his followers for the challenges they will face. He prepares them by promising His Holy Spirit’s presence with them and by praying for them. 

In this series, we will look at Jesus’ parting words to his twelve disciples and what they mean for us as disciples of Jesus today.

In celebration of Pentecost, Pastor Omar preached on the Holy Spirit.  He explained how the Spirit of God is the permanent, personal, and supportive divine presence of God and his truth.

Jesus exposes the darkness of Judas’ betrayal and Peter's denial with the light of glory and love. As Jesus' disciples, we too can strive to be a community that loves each other through correction.

Passages: John 13:1-17

When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, he gave them a dramatic picture of his identity.  Washing their feet was a sign of his role as the Messiah who would make them clean and an example for them to follow.  As we look back on this act of love today we are reminded of what it costs to serve others in ways that defy cultural norms.

Today's guest speaker shares the parable of the lost sheep and lost coin, and emphasizes Jesus' joy when just one sinner repents. There is a "caution" or rebuke that David wants to point out - looking at our condition and not thinking we're better than the condition of others - the outcasts, non-believers, etc.

In this message Pastor Omar draws distinctions from Jesus' interaction with Nicodemus and now the interaction with the Samaritan Woman, their contrasts:

Omar will take you through two aspects of the story: 1) who was she, and 2) who does she become.

Passages: John 3:1-18

In this message Pastor Omar focuses on the interaction between Jesus and Nicodemus in John and the status we receive when we're born again.

While that phrase can be contentious in terms of elevated status and division that can drive people away from Jesus, he uses it to illustrate to Nicodemus status means nothing when it comes to explaining what this new birth is and how to get it, versus something earned or achieved.

In this message Pastor Omar focuses on the important role Deacon's and Deacon Assistant's have in the life of the church. Omar will share from Acts what precipitated the need for this role, how it was developed with necessary qualifications and lastly the impact it provided.

Series Title: The Signs and Saying of Jesus

Series Summary: We continue looking at the life of Jesus from the gospel of John, focusing on the signs and sayings that tell us Jesus is significant. John describes seven signs (miracles) and "I am" statements that causes us to stop, ponder and think about his life and teachings.

Passages: John 14:1-13

Today's message focuses on Jesus as the only way to the father and on the surface, can be offensive. The context in which he shares this is telling them to not let your hearts be troubled. His "I Am" statement comes immediately after saying three very difficult statements that are about to happen, representing the single biggest failure that they'll have in the entirety of their ministry: 1) one of their own will betray him, 2) that he's going to leave them and they can't follow him and 3) Peter is going to deny him.
