Harbour Church Belfast

Naomi concludes a September mini-series on our missional values in Matthew 28. She shares her own story of faith adventure; asking God to share his vision and heart with her, and how this led to a vocational calling in poverty alleviation. She highlights that God is at work in a world that already belongs to him, and partners with his people to bring hope and transformation to homes, families, workplaces and cities. 

The second of our missional values at Harbour is formation. The key question of formation is ‘who am I becoming?’ and it’s worth asking because your life is sacred and meaningful. Jonny teaches that Christian formation a) means becoming like Jesus, b) happens by training, not trying, and c) is about our whole lives. 

Ahead of our Alpha Launch Night, Paula Ferguson teaches from Mark 2 about friends bringing friends to Jesus. She describes the legacy of her Grandmother’s faith and how one by one, she and her family encountered Jesus for themselves. 

At Harbour we believe God is calling us to become a community of homecoming, formation and adventure. Jonny starts a three-part series on this mission by teaching on homecoming from the most famous story Jesus ever told. 

In German the term ‘unheimlichkeit’ refers to the feeling of being ‘not-yet-at-home.’ The big story of the Bible describes how humanity is redemptively gathered home from exile. The genius of Jesus as a storyteller is taking that overarching story and folding it into a beautiful episode about a good Dad and two wayward sons. 

One says ‘I don’t need you’, the other believes ‘you owe me,’ both are ways of getting out somehow from underneath the love of God. 

The invitation to both boys and to us is simple: just come home.
