What might surprise you is the fact that falls from ladders account for about 25% of those deaths. In 2014, 90 of the 359 fatalities from fall hazards were from ladders. The number of deaths from ladder falls has been on the rise the last couple of years. The OSHA construction standard for ladders (1926.1053) is consistently the third most cited OSHA violation every year for the industry, just behind the duty to have fall protection and general requirements for scaffolds.
