Public fire departments responded to 1,319,500 fires in 2017, a slight decrease of 2% from the previous year. Of these, 499,000 fires occurred in structures, an increase of 5%. Of the structure fires in 2017, 357,000, or 72%, occurred in home structures, which include one- and two-family homes, manufactured homes, and apartments. This was an increase of 1%. There were also 168,000 fires in highway-type vehicles in 2017, a decrease of 3% from the previous year. The 623,000 fires that occurred in outside and other properties represented a decrease of 6%. Every 24 seconds, a fire department in the United States responds to a fire. A fire occurs in a structure at the rate of one every 63 seconds/home fire occurs every 88 seconds. Fires occur in highway vehicles at the rate of one every 3 minutes 8 seconds. Nationwide, a civilian died in a fire every 2 hours and 34 minutes

Thousands of people are blinded each year from work-related eye injuries that could have been prevented with the proper selection and use of eye and face protection.Employers are to ensure the safety of all employees in the work environment. Why is fall protection important?

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 366 of the 971 construction fatalities recorded in 2017 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.

 As shown by the above statistics, falls are a very real and serious safety threat in the construction industry that should never be taken lightly. To protect yourself from injury or death on the job, educate yourself about workplace dangers and practical ways in which you can work safely.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is a major concern to businesses, schools, building managers, tenants, and workers because it can impact the health, comfort, well-being, and productivity of the building occupants.
