HardLore

HardLore is joined by Trey Williams, drummer of the legendary death metal band Dying Fetus, whom we have officially dubbed "the hardest band to ever play music".

This interview occured just hours before their incredible and highly anticipated set at this year's FYA Fest, the preeminent hardcore music festival in Florida/the whole Southeast USA.

Dying Fetus has always been a band that can fit in any genre of extreme music, and tour with bands from Twitching Tongues to Hatebreed to Suicide Silence and make total sense in context, and their roots in hardcore run deep. Trey has been their drummer for 4 consecutive albums now, the most in the band's history, and we got to hear all about his journey growing up in Maryland learning drums to bands like Helmet, to how he eventually played for a band he was already a fan of.

HardLore is joined this week for an unbelievable and unfiltered conversation with Parris Mayhew, currently of AGGROS, but formerly the co-founder/original co-writer of legendary New York Hardcore band, the CRO-MAGS.

The Cro-Mags are inarguably one of the most influential and important hardcore bands of all time, and the sheer insanity and legend of the internal twists and turns within the band itself is the only thing that rivals the magnitude of their contributions to hardcore music.

10 years after his iconic interview with Rod Glacial that first appeared on Noisey (after he thought it was only supposed to be in a French magazine), we go over some key details from the interview and from the story of Parris' time in the Cro-Mags for some of the most riveting and controversial stories ever told on HardLore, and he shares all the facts about his new band Aggros. Don't miss this one.

Thank you Parris for joining us. Maybe world peace really can't be done...

HardLore is joined by LONG time friend of the show and Fleshwater singer Marisa Shirar, also known as Mirsy.

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, we talk about Marisa's journey from being scouted by a teacher at her high school, to cutting her teeth at the Cobalt Cafe, her history with Colin and Twitching Tongues, meeting her boyfriend and now bandmate Anthony, joining Fleshwater, her extensive and terrifying history with supernatural experiences and much, much more.

Dare I say... An instant classic.

Happy New Year! For our first episode of the year, we are joined by GRAMMY-WINNING producer/recording engineer Will Putney.

Aside from being the master of the modern metalcore sound for other bands, he is well known for playing guitar in genre-staple Fit For An Autopsy, multi-regional supergroup END, and the spiritual successor to Every Time I Die, Better Lovers.

We discuss getting his start as a recording engineer, his early, lesser known bands that spawned into FFAA, winning a Grammy with Body Count, re-discovering his love of touring, his studio Graphic Nature being haunted, early collaborations with Knocked Loose and MUCH more.

Our beloved Cayle Sain has passed away suddenly and tragically at the age of 31. Cayle was a pillar of the hardcore punk music community, a master-level drummer and a great friend to anyone he so much as spoke to. If you knew him he loved you, and he’ll live forever through his countless recorded performances and beautiful memories he made with everyone he encountered.

We were lucky enough to have convinced him to join us for a short interview in December of last year, for what was supposed to be a special prelude to the eventual series finale of HardLore.

Cayle is survived by his single mother, Kathy, his brother, Taylor and his girlfriend, Hailey. We’d like to support them in this trying time and give back to the family that gave us such a bright light in the world. The funds from the GoFundMe below will contribute to his memorial and his family. Cayle Sain forever and always.

Thank you for all of your love and support.

When hard bands go soft... Today on HardLore we explore our favorite "soft" songs played by bands that are normally much harder. Not every ballad is soft and not every soft song is a ballad.

We're here to fill the gaps and educate the HardLore listeners by expanding their musical palette, because we all know that the hardest thing a band can truly do is sing about their feelings or take a sonic risk.

THE HARDLORE AWARDS, live at Brain Dead Studios Fairfax in Los Angeles, California on December 18th, get tickets now: https://link.dice.fm/N668dfab0647
