Often times we get so caught up in “doing the right things” that we forget what it really means to be set free. In our quest for bettering ourselves, we hyper-focus on work and forget why we’re even doing it. Today, Pastor Jeff reminds us that Jesus came to sacrifice himself in our place so that we could be set free. We no longer have to be stuck in our old ways or follow any rules to get where we want to go. Instead, follow Jesus, break free from the burdens that are holding you back, and accept His promise.
Following the law has a way of tricking us into feeling like we are closer to something or someone than we really are. When we get into routines and follow the rules, it makes us feel part of something. In today’s message, Pastor Jeff explains that Jesus dying on the cross allows you to draw closer to Him. Instead of following rules and abiding by strict codes to feel a connection to Christ, He allows you to develop your own relationship with Him. Stop blindly following the law and become intimate with Christ.
As Christians, when we read the Old Testament, many of the rules and rituals don’t seem to be all that important to our everyday lives. In today’s message, Pastor Jeff explains that we need to take the new covenant, brought before us by Jesus dying on the cross, as seriously as those in the Bible took the old one. No, we don’t need to sacrifice animals or be born into a specific clan to be a priest, but through His sacrifice, our sins are forgiven and He expects that we lay down our life for Him.
