  • Why Didn't Dumbledore KILL Snape at the Hilltop? - Harry Potter Explained
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing a moment where Snape (at this point a fully-fledged Death Eater) meets Dumbledore on a windy hilltop to plead his case. Harry sees all of this through the pensieve- through the memories of Snape himself- and it's here that he witnesses a young Snape, begging and pleading with Dumbledore- the leader of the opposition. One thought came to my mind when I first came across this segment- and that was, why did Dumbledore agree to meet Snape? And when he did meet him, why didn't he kill him? Furthermore, wasn't he afraid that Snape might try and kill HIM? At this point, Snape subscribed to the inhuman philosophies of Lord Voldemort. He was a killer, traitor, liar, and betrayer of all those who had trusted him. Why would Dumbledore agree to meet a man that SURELY he could not trust?Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory

  • Why Didn't Fawkes' Tears Heal Dumbledore's Hand? - Harry Potter Explained
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Dumbledore, his cursed hand, and his Phoenix companion Fawkes. Specifically, we'll be exploring why Fawkes' tears weren't used to help Dumbledore stay ALIVE.Why didn't Fawkes' tears CURE Dumbledore and his vicious ailment?Albus Dumbledore was the most powerful wizard of his era, and the sudden, tragic news of his death sent shockwaves throughout Britain. And even though Severus Snape might have cast the final spell that killed the much beloved headmaster of Hogwarts, it was Lord Voldemort's curse that truly murdered him. How? You may ask. Why, Marvolo Gaunt's ring of course. When Dumbledore went out searching for Horcruxes, it didn't take long for him to find Marvolo Gaunt's ring- a Horcrux that happened to house the fabled Resurrection Stone- one of the 3 Deathly Hallows. And how could a man who lived such a troubling life, a life full of regret, ignore the temptations of the Resurrection Stone? A powerful relic that could (momentarily) reunite him with the shades of dead loved ones who had since passed. In particular, Dumbledore had a lot to say to his dead sister Ariana. In the end, it was the allure of the Resurrection Stone that prompted Dumbledore to slide the ring onto his finger, and receive Voldemort's lethal curse. In that brief moment, when his eyes first met the stone, Albus completely forgot the dark charms with which Voldemort had cursed his Horcruxes. And it was this momentary lapse that cost Dumbledore his life, or-would have- had Snape not pulled the trigger on the Killing Curse sooner. After being inflicted by the curse, Dumbledore became immediately ill, and it was only with Snape's help that he was able to confine the curse to a single hand- granting him a little bit of time to live. But what I've always wondered is why Dumbledore and Snape didn't recruit the healing power of Dumbledore's powerful Phoenix companion- Fawkes.Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory

  • Why Can't Goblins or Elves Carry Wands? - Harry Potter Explained
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're going to be discussing Goblins AND Elves in relation to wand ownership. Now, it should come as no surprise when I tell you that Goblins haven't been treated well over the course of wizarding history. Pure bloods outright hated them, and in the past even the most progressive members of the wizarding world felt a general mistrust for the tiny, monstrous humanoid-creatures. And if we look back at Wizarding history, there appears to have been conflict after conflict between wizards and goblins, with the goblins rebelling on numerous occasions. In the present day, I think it's safe to say that tensions have lowered, but that things certainly have a long way to go. These days, Goblins are in charge of Gringotts Wizarding Bank, overseeing all of the responsibilities associated with currency in the Wizarding World. And in this more modern era, it would appear that the more progressive members of wizarding society have (almost) started to treat them as equals. But still, there remain obvious imbalances in the wizarding world that inhibit Goblins. They have some rights now, which is a lot more than can be said of the Goblins from the 1600s, but they're still excluded from doing basic things- things like CARRYING A WAND.Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory

  • Who Was the FIRST Wizard in History? (2600 BC) - Harry Potter Explained
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing the VERY FIRST known Witch AND Wizard in Harry Potter history. Over the course of the Harry Potter story we see some impressively old witches and wizards, including some who have lived for multiple centuries.Barry Wee Willie Winkle, the oldest living wizard, had his 755th birthday featured in the August 1991 issue of the Daily Prophet, and Nicolas Flamel, with the help of the Philosopher's Stone, reached 700.But while these numbers may seem impressive, it's important to note that wizardkind dates back much, much further than 700 or so years. The origins of magic and where magic came from is still unclear to this day, and no one knows whether the inception of wizardkind was born from humans randomly discovering their magical abilities - or if it was created in some form - by way of pact, ritual, or potion."Magic is a supernatural force that changes aspects of the world at fundamental levels. The ability for humans to use magic is a hereditary trait passed down from a person's ancestors, which allows witches and wizards to practice it. Rather than being a mystical or unnatural pursuit that defied the laws of nature, however, magic simply allowed those who could wield it to exploit them in very specific and creative ways that Muggle sciences were unable to replicate."And while we may not know WHERE magic came from- or witches and wizards for that matter- we do have just a tiny bit of information about the very first magic users- practitioners of magic that far preceded the likes of wizards like Albus Dumbledore.Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory

  • Why Was Ron Weasley Allowed a Pet RAT at Hogwarts? - Harry Potter Theory
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing Hogwarts, Ron Weasley, and his pet rat Scabbers. More specifically, we're going to be dissecting WHY Ron was able to seemingly bypass Hogwarts rules and bring a pet rat to school. Before any young witch or wizard heads off to Hogwarts, they'll need to make sure they run through their shopping list. We see this list referenced when Hagrid takes Harry to Diagon Alley for the first time."This shopping list includes all of the books and equipment you'll need for the first year of Hogwarts."A shopping list is provided to all current and prospective students of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, and outlines all of the school supplies that they will need for that year. For first years, the shopping list is sent along with their Hogwarts acceptance letter, for third years, it comes with Hogsmeade forms (a permission form required to be signed by a third year student's parent or guardian in order for that student to take part on the weekend trips to Hogsmeade Village), and for sixth years it comes with their OWL results. The shopping list was created to help give students an idea of what they need for their time at the school, including things like books, robes, cauldrons, and the topic of today's video: animals.Hogwarts students are able to choose between an owl, cat or toad to accompany them to school. This is very clearly outlined in the shopping list. But right near the very beginning of the story, Ron pops up out of nowhere with his pet rat. Ron brings Scabbers to Hogwarts with him for many years, and presumably, Percy Weasley brought Scabbers along with HIM for years before that. Why was this allowed?Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory

  • Why Harry DIDN'T Have His Mother's Eyes - Harry Potter Explained
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing one of the biggest oversights in the history of cinema- Harry's eyes. More specifically, we're going to be unpacking WHY on earth Harry's eyes looked NOTHING like his mothers despite being it reinforced time and time again that they resembled hers entirely. As a matter of fact, Harry's eyes are mentioned a whopping 20 times across all of the books, with 9 of these instances making some sort of comparison to his mother, Lily. The list of characters known to have remarked on Harry's eyes includes (but is not limited to)the likes of Hagrid, Ollivander, Dumbledore, Mrs.Weasley, Rita Skeeter, Elphias Doge, Slughorn and more. Slughorn even discussed Harry's eyes in relation to Lily's on more than one occasion!Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory

  • Harry's SECRET Connection to Dementors - Harry Potter Theory
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're going to be discussing Harry Potter, Dementors, and of course- souls. More specifically, we're going to be discussing a popular fan theory which suggests that Dementors are perhaps more drawn to Harry than anyone else. Now, Harry's had his fair share of run ins with Dementors, that's for sure- but what I want to look at today is whether or not his copious run-ins with dementors was the result of sheer dumb misfortune, or whether they were constantly drawn to Harry for another reason. Dementors are cloaked creatures that are 3 metres tall with dark grey scabby skin. Dementors are foul creatures that represent unhappiness and despair. They are commonly known as the guards of Azkaban prison, responsible for ensuring that all of Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory

  • The Sad TRUTH Behind Snape's Spell Sectumsempra - Harry Potter Theory
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing Severus Snape, spell creation, and his famous dark curse 'Sectumsempra'.Under the moniker the 'Half-Blood Prince' Severus Snape scribbled all sorts of spells and curses in to his Advanced Potion Making textbook. But perhaps none were more dangerous or powerful than Sectumsempra- a spell that we got to see on display in totality during Harry and Draco's 1997 duel in the sixth floor boys bathroom. And when Harry first takes Slughorn's potion class, he's fortunate enough to find the very same textbook that a young, troubled Snape once jotted pure gold in to."This book is the property of the Half Blood Prince"Harry uses the book for quite a while, as for each and every one of Slughorn's lessons, the book provided easier and clearer instructions that he could follow. The book was like having cheat codes to all of the potions lessons. But inside the book was not just advice on how to make potions or perfect existing spells, there were also spells written inside that were totally new to Harry. Spells like Sectumsempra. These were spells that he had never seen or heard of before- and that's because they were invented by Snape himself.Snape invented many spells- Levicorpus, Liberacorpus, the Muffliato Charm, Langlock etc.But Sectumsempra was..perhaps...the most meaningful. Here's why.Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory

  • Why Weren't the Potter Family on the Sacred 28? - Harry Potter Explained
Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we're discussing The Sacred Twenty-Eight. More specifically, we'll be diving in to WHY the Potter family were excluded from this 'exclusive' list.Let's start with the most obvious question: What is The Sacred Twenty-Eight? Well, as you may already know, it's actually more a question of WHO, rather than WHAT. Alright, so WHO exactly are they and how did they come to be? The Sacred Twenty-Eight is a "Pure-Blood Directory" of the wizarding world's supposed most pure-blooded magical families - which is to say, the witches and wizards whose ancestors had not "muddied" their blood lines with Muggle integration. A 'Pure-blood' was classified as a witch or wizard who had no muggles, squibs, muggle-borns or half-bloods in their family tree. But while the list does indeed account for 28 pure-blood wizarding families, it's worth noting that one of the most FAMOUS surnames in Harry Potter- you guessed it..POTTER- is excluded from the list. The Potter's were pure-blood's, weren't they? Why were they excluded from this prestigious list?Socials: https://linktr.ee/hptheory
