When Mary poured her expensive perfume on Jesus' feet, many of the witnesses rebuked her for being wasteful. What they couldn't see is that the love she showed to Him through this act was worth more than even the rarest oils. While we fast stinginess today, pray and ask God how you can be generous to someone in your life and step in faith when he gives you an answer.

The heart of God is to be in relationship with us. Having a close christian community can be a great representation of this desire. While we fast "Isolation", take some of your time out of the day to fellowship with others and spend time with the Lord.

Jesus ministered to many of the people who were considered outcasts in their time. Of course while we read about it, it's hard to believe that the Pharisees would be so judgemental towards others. What we don't realize is that we can be found guilty of this almost every day without even realizing it. Think about people in your life that you may be spiritually underestimating. Today, as we fast "religious profiling" pray for those people as they come to mind and ask God to help you view them the way He does.

Proverbs 3:5 says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight." Our fast today is all about getting rid of a mindset that rationalizes the Christian faith. There will be some things that we know about God, but He is not limited to the things that only our minds can fathom. Take that step of faith today as you trust that He is always doing what is best for our lives.

Whether it may be ourselves or a loved one feeling grief, it can be easy to view it as a problem that needs fixing. Today's fast is to avoid "Fixing it". God provides for us and knows what we need more than what we are aware of. Allow yourself to be vulnerable with God about the things you may be going through. If there is someone you know who may be battling something today, offer them comfort and allow them to be in the moment without pressure to change immediately.

Did you know that while there are forty different references to food in the Bible, there are seventy to fasting? Today we will be fasting a meal. The reason for this practice is so that we can take our physical hunger for food and turn it into a spiritual hunger for Jesus. While you do this today, ask God to give you more of a longing for Him.
