Trouble is inevitable wherever people gather—even in the church. Misunderstandings, hurt feelings, and conflict can threaten unity if they aren't handled biblically. In Acts 6, we see that the early church faced both internal challenges and external opposition, yet God continued to work powerfully through His people.
In this message, Pastor Steve Henry shows how believers can respond to conflict in a way that honors Christ, preserves unity, and keeps the mission of the gospel at the center.
Acts 6 records a complaint within the growing church as widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution. Rather than ignoring the problem or allowing division to grow, the apostles responded with wisdom, appointed qualified servants, and remained devoted to prayer and the ministry of God's Word. The sermon also follows Stephen's faithful witness as he faced false accusations and persecution, demonstrating what it looks like to honor God even under intense opposition. Together, these events teach us three biblical principles: expect trouble, work through it, and honor God as you navigate it.
Because of Jesus Christ, the church has hope even in seasons of conflict. As we submit to the Holy Spirit, pursue reconciliation, and remain faithful to God's Word, He can use even difficult circumstances to strengthen His people and advance the gospel.
