We've just see the power of God, the holding power of God in the universe where people trust him. And this, this letter is written to Jews who had believed that Jesus is the Messiah. They, they believed when Jesus came and taught and when he was crucified and when he was resurrected, they decided to believe they put their faith in their trust in the Lord, Jesus Christ. They believe that he is indeed who he says he is and who the scripture declares him to be. 2 (18m 40s): And so as they move along in their faith, as followers of the Lord, Jesus Christ in the first century, they're, they're experiencing persecution from family and, and others who don't understand their decisions, who don't understand why they've decided to follow Jesus. Who's here after fighting COVID and being in the hospital or grief. We rejoice. Lord God, others are going through hard stuff. I think my little Scarlet, who's a couple of weeks old and in the hospital, dealing with sepsis and fighting for her life. And Lord, we just pray for her and for every person that she ever since we pray for healing and grace and help Lord God and encouragement in life. And Lord, we pray for those who are in need relationally and financially and spiritually. We pray that you'd bless and wash over. We pray for our shut-ins for those who are ill and in homes who are not able to be here, we bless them. And so we do have a guest speaker this morning, Mike and Jan Sparrow. They've been friends of ours since the mid eighties. I think so our kids and Steve and Jolene's kids and Mike and Jan's kids, they all kind of all went to school together at coastal Christian school. So we've known them for many, many years. 3 (14m 2s): And also Mike has served as pastor of a GABA church in San Louis for many decades. He'll tell you all about that, but Mike is going to be sharing God's word with us this morning. And so Perry, you want to go ahead and bring the podium up front. Good to be with you. Good to see you all see some familiar faces. And I was here, I don't know, several months ago and Steve actually invited me back. So Hey, something must have went, right? Maybe. I don't know, but it's good to be with you. I also have a twin and a, not quite like this and his name is pat Sparrow and because it was Halloween, I was tempted to open today with a slide of pat and I. This was a long time ago, 45 years ago. Actually it was the Halloween before we received Christ. Pat was dressed like a nun and I was dressed like a devil. 4 (15m 4s): Then we were dancing. And, and if you saw that picture, you'd say those two guys need to get saved and I'm, and I'm sure glad we did. It was, it was the Lord totally working on us in us. And so here we are, I, I got some things in my heart, Steve, when he asked me to speak, it was several months ago, he started setting up this date and he said, Hey, would you want to speak on that day? And I asked him, what do you want me to speak about? And he says, I don't know, whatever's on your heart. And so there's been lots of things on my heart because the season the church is in and what's going on with the big church, the big C church. And I am a regional director for our association. So I get to travel something as COVID opens up, talking to pastors all the time, I'm also helping to coordinate the pastors fellowship in San Louis. 4 (15m 52s): So I keep a tab on what's going on in churches and in the body of Christ at large. And so there's been a few things that just been stirring in me that I'm hoping to share today and that you'll you'll catch it, that you'll, you'll see it. And you'll begin to pray into it and the impact you and it'll impact your church here. Likewise, last time I was here, I talked a little about family care network. I'm a liaison for them helping to recruit foster kids where we can be. When I speak, I tell them I'll put a plug in for family care network where I can, and then I need right now because of COVID, there's a big need for re rescue homes or the emergency shelter homes. 4 (16m 37s): Sometimes the middle of the night for various reasons, the police are called the authorities come and that children need to be removed from their home sometimes at short term and as they get family or others, or the situation gets revolt, resolve to put the child back in the home. And so there's a great need for that. We had a 16 year old gal Spanish-speaking only a few weeks ago. Crises came into her house, a single mom, single parent situation. And for cause there was no homes for three days. She stayed in the offices with social workers. And that, that shouldn't be, there's a strong communit

1 (7m 49s): We are your children. 2 (12m 20s): Gotcha. Thank you for that gospel song that declares our sin is forgiven. Our debt has been paid Lord. We are so refreshed by that revelation, that truth God, as we open up the scripture today and we talk about forgiveness, or I pray that that truth would just continue to resonate in our souls and that we'd be so grateful. And then in turn, forgive those who need forgiveness in our lives. Lord God, that we would extend to those who have injured us, hurt us, offended us God, that we would extend the same grace that has been extended to us by our savior, that we would indeed be Jesus with skin on extending the grace and mercy that is so desperately needed in our lives in our culture. 2 (13m 14s): Lord God. So we just invite you to just do powerful and profound things through your word today. Thank you for what you've already done through just prayer and worship together and what you accomplish in the first service. Got we have great expectation that you're going to continue that good work for the second service Lord. And so God all over this campus and online, we just invite you to move to speak. God, I pray that our hearts would be tender and responsive and humble and ready, and God that we would do what you ask us to do. Hey, we're in Lima today, but before we go there, the guys had a camp out this weekend. We call it a camp out, but it was really pretty plush. It was, it was at this ranch, this 600 acre ranch out in called the sharp ranch and we call it camping cause we were intense and that sort of thing, but it was on this lush green grass. 2 (14m 38s): That was just incredible with a great outdoor kitchen and bathrooms and the whole, whole nine yards. And then we just had this incredible chapel to gather in out there at the sharp ranch. And so we gathered and got there Friday nights and had a, I taught through Hebrews 11 about faith. And then Ron on Saturday morning talked about endurance. And so worships talked about faith and enduring and worship some more. And then I said, Hey guys, go out and spend about 45 minutes and just pray and ask the Lord to speak something to you regarding what we've been learning and just what God wants to speak to you. 2 (15m 18s): Just go out there and listen to the Lord. And then we're going to come back and talk about it. So we did that. We came back and we talked about it and really the best part of the whole 24 hour period that we had out there was just the testimonies of God's faithfulness. And so if you missed it, man planned to be a part of what's going on when we do it again, we'll do it again, probably around this time. Next year we'll have another camp, but maybe sooner it was so rich and refreshing and it's just a time for men to connect. And we had great food. We had some amazing try to for dinner. And then just this amazing we had, we cooked up so much bacon for breakfast. I mean the guys went through and they took as much bacon as they wanted. 2 (15m 59s): And they came back for more. It was just, there was this abundance of bacon. You can never go wrong with bacon and try to get with guys and hotcakes and all kinds of stuff. It was just an incredible time, but God was on the move with our men, this, this last 24 hours. And I'm really refreshed by that and really grateful for it. And I think God wants to do something with us today. As we teach through files Lehman, finally, man is all about forgiveness. I've titled the message today. Forgiveness is possible. Philemon is all about forgiveness. The apostle Paul writes as he's in a Roman cell, writes this letter to his friend, Phi Lehman, his partner in the faith. 2 (16m

Today, we're going to wrap up Titus chapter three a minute for the last number of weeks, a little break window. Jeremy spoke for a couple of weeks in a row and a little break from last week, but we are back in Titus chapter three, Titus chapter three. We've titled the message. All who trust in God should do what is good. All who trust in God should do. What is good? Where are we picking it up in verse and Ron Ron covered Titus three one. And so if you miss that message, you can look [email protected], and you will find the message there. 3 (18m 1s): So will be entitled chapter three, verses two, and following. So w getting ready to leave this morning, and Jolene's got this sweater, Jolene's my wife. And she's got this sweatshirt on. It says, choose happy. And it has totally brightened my day, because she's been going through recovery from her surgery. She had surgery about 10 days ago, and, and now they, they think she might have a torn diaphragm. So she might have to go back in for that. And so she's got to been through a lot of pain and, and yet she's choosing to be optimistic and choosing to be happy and just choosing to trust the Lord. And I thought, man, that's really what we probably all need to be doing in our lives. Choosing to do the right thing when it's especially difficult to choose the right thing, I've had to do that because I don't know if you've noticed, but God has not given me the gift of compassion and empathy. 3 (18m 54s): It might be surprising to some, not so much to others. And so it's been my job to, with compassion and empathy, take care of my wife for these last 10 days and probably for the foreseeable future for the next six weeks or so, depending on what's going on with her, but because of my love for her, my desire to serve for guys to give me the, you know, I've been asking the Lord, Lord, would you give me the grace just to do this every day? Would you give me the grace to get up and take care of her and just serve her in her time of need? And so the Lord has been doing that and I thought, this is how really we are meant to live the Christian life, just completely dependent on the Lord, depending on him to fill us with the desire to do the things that he's called us to do. 3 (19m 36s): We've all been called for purpose. And part of that purpose is doing good. Paul writes to Titus here in Titus chapter three, and he explains that the people of God must learn to do good. And then he impacts some things, some areas in which we need to learn to do good. And so we're going to be unpacking that together. And I, as you'll be Kaleed, as I was challenged in prepping the message and thinking about the, the, the, the words that were written there that remember the context. So this letter is written to Titus, who is a spiritual oversee of the pastor of a bunch of house churches on the island of Crete. 3 (20m 17s): Crete is in, it's a group, a Grecian island, and it's, it's very corrupt. It's, it's a very dark culture. And in fact, in Titus one 12, it says everyone, even one of their own men. So even one of their own men who profit from Crete has said about them, that people of Crete are all liars, cruel animals and lazy gluttons. So that kind of gives us the backdrop. Maybe we can look at our own culture and say, man, we're dealing with a lot of the same type of stuff. The people of creed are all liars, cruel animals and lazy gluttons. And so God by his mercy rescues people out of a culture with the desire to save them, adopt them into his family, but then also to transform their lives so that they can be salt in light, salt, and ligh

We take this for granted so often that yet, Lord, this is something you call us to do as a, as, as your body of Christ to gather together, to worship you God, to lift you up and then to hear from you and your word Lord. So as we prepare for the time of the word, I pray that you just through these worship songs, just soften the soil of our hearts, that we might receive your, your word as seeds. So I just got back from Tulsa. Oklahoma was there for a few days influencers, which is a discipleship ministry that we're a part of at harvest church has a ministry for men and for women discipleship ministry. That we're a part of and have been a part of for a number of years. Now, a lot of our men and a lot of our women are going through this journey, put out buys it's curriculum, put out by Rocky Fleming. Who's the founder of influencers ministry. So they just had their 20 year summit, their 20 year anniversary. And so I was invited to go out with a group of guys from our church and I wasn't planning to go because I had other things on my schedule. 3 (16m 46s): And then my schedule changed. And then the Sunday before last I was invited and they said, Hey, we still have room. If you've got your, if your schedule is clear. And I said, well, this is the deal. My schedule is clear. If I can find a plane flight out last minute, then you know, I'll consider going. So talked to my wife and said, Hey, this is the deal. I, I want to go to this. I don't know if I'll get to be able to get a ticket, but she said, well, if we get a ticket, you go, if not, then you'll know. So we line and found a ticket. And so I went off to Tulsa with, like I said, there were about 126 guys gathered at this old salvation army camp outside of Tulsa. 3 (17m 28s): And that was just this delightful time. The opening night, Thursday nights, the founder, Rocky Fleming. So it was Thursday night, Friday, Saturday, come home Sunday. So I got home last Sunday at about six o'clock in the night's hand. And so Rocky Fleming opens things up after we have some worship and some prayer and he begins to talk about an orphan spirits. And I had heard of this concept over the course of time, over the course of my years in ministry. And just as a Christian and part of the jour

If you weren't here last week, I, I started with maybe notice the Lord's prayer, the disciple's prayer, the model prayer found in Luke chapter 11 and Matthew chapter six and last week was very much the kind of ethereal portion where this week is going to be a little more practical. 5 (12m 46s): So I'm looking forward to that. But with that said, why don't we all just stand up and we'll, we're going to pray the prayer together and we'll go from there. I'll be from Luke chapter 11, our father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom, come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our sins. I got to, to teach really on like this prayer that Jesus had his, you know, his disciples came to him and said, Hey Jesus, we see the most powerful thing that you do is this, this thing called prayer. This thing of talking to your father. So Lord teach us to pray as well, not teach us necessarily how to pray, but teach us to pray. They saw something important in the life of Jesus and they wanted that for themselves. And so the first part of that prayer, that Jesus then teaches them is really, if you're a CEO, if you, if you've ever started a business, you start with the mission statement and then you give a vision and then you give the core values like how the company does these things. So I see this, that in this prayer as well, see the mission is our father in heaven. 5 (14m 11s): How it'd be your name, that's what we want to do. We want to set God apart from any other. And that's the mission of, of, of Jesus and what he came to do. And then he gives us vision of your kingdom. Come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. And now he's going to give really practical steps of the core values of how we practically do that in our day-to-day life. So that's why I'm excited to, to lead us into today. Last week we addressed, you know, when we come to God to pray, it's how we address God. We talked to him as the father. We talked to the father first about the father, and then we talk to the father about his kingdom. And then we talked to the father about his will for his kingdom, in a sense we want to let God be, God, let God be God. 5 (14m 58s): So that's the way we start the prayer. How do we continue that? How do we show that to others? How do we live this out? So we do that by one that we show others. We model others, that we have a heavenly who father, who cares about us and that we set apart our heavenly father, because we know he's, he's, he's, he's earned that he, oh, he has owned that. Then we do that by seeking out our lived out lives to bring his heavenly reign here to earth, by showing that by modeling that in our own lives. And then we live that out in our daily lives. A number of years ago, I got to go to Ethiopia to go visit some missionary friends that

It's it's, it's a, it's a message that I've been kind of laboring and working through and really just been on my heart. It's it was fun for service to kind of bring it to the light Allister. 3 (14m 44s): Beg would say it was it's the closest he's ever felt to being pregnant and giving birth is, is you, you hope that's not offending, but it's this thing that for me, it's, it's just it Wells up and it's growing. And then it's, it's, it's amazing to see how it comes out. So I pray just, today's just a blessing. My, my brother and I growing up, and I know I've told a story in the past that wasn't true about the poison. If you're here for that one, this is it. This is actually a true story. So let me tell you about this. My, my brother, we had a lot of hobbies. We were always interested in trying to, we were always inquisitive about different things. So we would, hobbies would pop up, we'd see something on TV or in a book. 3 (15m 28s): And we're like, wow, we want to know more about this. So my mom, she would always, she would just take us to the library and we'd go look up whatever we wanted to. And it was fun to be able to research these things. And our tree was one of those things. I don't know where we inherited it from, but we found this red fiberglass, recurve bow, and my brother and I wanted to know everything about archery and we wanted to find out more. So that's what we did. We went to the library, he got all the books and began reading, studying, okay, how this is how you do it. Well, we also made a range in our backyard and we found, I don't know why we had it, just a random closet door, those kind of hollow core doors. And we set it up in our backyard as a target. 3 (16m 9s): And of course, boys, what do you want to do? You want to shoot at something real? So we set up, we drew an outline of a person like this on that door, and that was our target. And then after a while that just that stagnant target, we decided that we'll, let's, let's make this a little more realistic because when you shoot something that needs to die. So we tried to like prop up the door in a way that, you know, a little stick or something would hold it. Then when you, when it gets shot with the arrow would fall over, be a little more realistic. Well, that didn't work out too well. So we decided, well, the best thing is probably just to hold the door up and you can't stand behind the door. Cause every once in a while, the arrow will go straight through the door, you know? And so my brother, we just held it at arms length. 3 (16m 52s): We'll be okay. And we were my brother and I were really, we were good. We were good. We were good shots. You know, we'd a lot of practice. Once in a while, our friend Mike, he would come over and he'd he'd practice with us too, but he wasn't, he just hadn't been practicing as long. So it wasn't as good. Well, it was the nineties and Robin hood, prince of thieves came out and we we've loved that show. We love that movie, especially cause there was archery in it. And there was one scene where Robin hood, he draws his arrow and he flips around any shoots. And I think it was like through the trees or something, it was like this really cool movie

Amen. So go ahead and have a seat. That would be wonderful. So just a little bit of background information, pastor Steve and his family, they, they try to take an annual trip to bass lake. And so they are gone for about a week. So pray Steve Henry and his, his clan. They couldn't go last year. 2 (20m 51s): Can you imagine why they couldn't go last year? Reason? None of us could go anywhere last year. So anyway, my name's Ron, I get to share with you today. So I want to welcome all of you in the sanctuary and also in the loss and in the patio and online, it's an amazing thing that we can really touch the world with the message of the gospel through technology, you know, and it's kind of an amazing thing. So as we begin this morning, as you know, yesterday was the 20th anniversary of the events of nine 11, the terror attacks of nine 11 being on the west coast, not on the east coast square at all took place. 2 (21m 33s): It's easy to be kind of disconnected, but just know this 2,977 people lost their lives on that day, 20 years ago on nine 11. What I've done this past week, just as a way of, I love history, but I want to know, I want to know what happened more fully be reminded about what happened 20 years ago on nine 11. And so I watched the documentary, it was done by national geographic and it's I think six episodes where they take you through day one. So it's just prior to, you know, the first Northern tower getting hit by, by the airline and then, and then it all unfolded from there. 2 (22m 21s): It, I think it's important to, to approach our lives and our world through a good sense of, of history of who we are, and not only 20 years ago, but certainly prior to that. And when we experienced something like that, it's becomes part of our lives. It's etched in our, our mind. Can you remember where you were on nine 11, 2001? Probably almost all of us can remember where we were, but out of that documentary, that documentary that I watched national geographic, it gave me such a overwhelming sense of appreciation for first responders, especially firefighters, and mainly because as everyone is pouring out of the buildings, they're rushing into the buildings to rescue people, to bring people to safety and not only the fireman, but also the medics and the police, you know, anyone that is a first responder. 2 (23m 24s): And it was so amazing to me to see their commitment to rescue people's lives in them, even in the midst of the potential of their own loss of life, but the, the comradery between them, between the firefighters. I, I've never known that the only I can even compare it to, and maybe, maybe the camaraderie that we share as be
