1. Which Raised and Exalted the Conquering Christ. (20-21)

Paul prays that we might know the greatness of God’s power, which is in accordance with His great might – 20 “that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.”

?- Having a relationship with the conquering Christ, is there anything that I think He can’t help me with?

?- Is there any entity (physical or spiritual) that I treat as if they have more power & authority than Jesus?

2. Which Elevates Those Who Follow Christ. (22-23)

2a. Christ has dominion over all things as the Last Adam.

22a And he put all things under his feet (see Psalm 8:3-6)

?- Am I living more like I’m related to the First Adam or the Last Adam?

2b. The CEO of the church is in charge of all of creation.

22b and gave him as head over all things to the church,

?- Do I value the church as the organization which belongs to Jesus personally?

2c. The church is the body of the most significant head.

23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

?- As a part of Christ’s body, do I give Him full control like the way my head controls my hands?

?- Is my faith noticeable to others?

?- How would I describe my love toward other believers?

a. It’s far more in word than in deed.

b. Other believers can tell that I’m concerned and experience the impact of my love for them.

c. I’m actively pursuing the good of other believers.

2. Pray for the Full Confidence in God’s Provision. (17-20)

• Have confidence in the completion of God’s saving work.

• Have confidence in God’s glory-shining inheritance.

• Have confidence in the power of God directed toward you.

?- What provision from God do I typically want to experience?

a. comfort, ease, and independence?

b. strong hope in Christ, anticipation of heaven, and awareness of God’s awesome power?

?- Can I rejoice in how suffering can help me be more interested in God’s better provision?

EMBRACE OUR COSTLY REDEMPTION THAT’S BIGGER THAN US. (7-10)

?- Do I thank God regularly for what He paid for my redemption, which is the sacrifice of His Son?

?- Do I get frustrated when God doesn’t seem to be working toward my goals?

EMBRACE GOD’S CONTROL OF HIS SAVING WORK. (11-14)

Jewish Example: God’s predetermination to save a people for His glory.

Gentile Example: God’s amazing response to our simple response to the gospel.

?- Can I accept that God is in control of His saving work?

?- Do I experience the ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life – His convincing, conviction, comfort, etc?

?- Do I doubt that God can keep me in Christ until I’m in His presence?

1a. Set your heart on heavenly blessings.

?- Am I disappointed by the idea of God blessing me with SPIRITUAL blessings in the HEAVENLY places?

?- What habits or activities might be stealing from me my enjoyment of God’s heavenly blessings because they train my affections for earthly pleasures?

1b. Set your heart on God’s glory and goal in salvation.

?- How does it strike me that God chose those He’d redeem before they could ever try to earn His favor?

?- Am I resistant to God’s goal of my personal sanctification/growing more holy?

?- Could my lack of growth be robbing me of the enjoyment of the spiritual blessings I have in the heavenly places?

2. EMBRACE GOD’S SOVEREIGN PROCESS & GLORY IN SALVATION. (5-6)

?- How well does God’s predestinating work sit with me?

?- Do I try to figure out how it’s somewhat dependent on a person’s choice?

?- Knowing Christ, do I see myself as being adopted as a full-fledged member of God’s household?

Keeping the Faith

Reject the Idea that God Wants Us to Live in Sin. (1-5)

• Living in sin doesn’t fit a person who has died to sin.

• The person who’s been saved has been given new life.

?- Would my behavior or habits be described as sinful or dishonoring to God?

?- Have I laid claim to the new life that was purchased for me by Christ’s death and resurrection?

?- Is my Christianity limited to what I believe, or is it transforming my life as well (my thoughts, speech, choices, habits, etc.)?

Claim the Life that Christ has Won for You. (5-11)

?- Do I think Christ’s death and resurrection is only meant to change my eternal destiny, or do I know it’s meant to change my life?

?- How can I fill in this blank: “I know that I’m freed from _______, and I have been given new life to __________ instead.”

?- How can I set up my life to get “coaching” when I’m under temptation?

Looking Back, Trust that God Works toward His Good Purpose. (50:19-21)

Like Joseph, our faith can transform the way that we think about and respond to people that have hurt us in the past.

?- Is there an experience in your past that makes you mad to think about how you were treated?

?- Can you trust that God allowed it to take place for His good purposes?

?- Can you forgive those who’ve hurt you, knowing, in faith, that God was at work even in their mistreatment of you?

Looking Ahead, Trust that God will Keep His Promises. (49:28-33, 50:24-25)

Jacob Trusted that God would Keep His Promises. (49:28-33)

Joseph Trusted that God would Keep His Promises. (50:24-25)

Like Jacob and Joseph, we can look ahead with faith if we know Christ as our Savior and are familiar with God’s promises about our eternity.

?- If you can’t name any of God’s promises for your future, might this partly explain fear or worry in your heart?
