In Galatians 5:16–26, Paul reminds us that the Christian life is not lived by our own strength, nor are we meant to be controlled by whatever we happen to feel. Instead, believers are called to walk by the Spirit, even as we experience the very real conflict between the desires of the flesh and the work of the Spirit. This message, “Don’t Be Spooked by the Spirit!”, helps us understand what it means to live in daily dependence on the Holy Spirit without treating Him as mysterious or distant. Paul shows us the destructive works of the flesh and contrasts them with the beautiful fruit the Spirit produces in those who belong to Christ. Rather than simply trying harder to become godly, we are called to desire the Spirit’s work, confess what grieves Him, open our lives to His filling, and continually walk in step with Him. The result is a life increasingly marked by the character of Christ—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
