In II Timothy 4, we have the last words of Paul recorded in the New Testament. He is alone in prison in Rome, and he is about to be executed.

Since temptation is an enticement to evil, why would we need to ask God not to do something He would never do?

In Isaiah God declares, "I am He who blots out your transgressions, for My own sake, and remembers your sins no more."

In Like Passion

God indeed gives daily bread to all men, even to the wicked, without our prayer

We pray this line ACKNOWLEDGING that even our daily bread is His provision, His gift. He is our Master Provider. He is Jehovah-Jireh.

To live like the world is to grieve the Holy Spirit. But to live according to the new self is to make our relationship with the Holy Spirit strong and alive.

In Matthew 26:36-46, we read of Jesus praying this prayer, too. He was in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew his "hour" had come. At the heart of his prayer are the words, "Thy will be done."

When we pray "Thy Kingdom come" we are asking God to advance and expand that Kingdom in the hearts of people.

One of the challenges that is common to our human condition, is that of going through seasons when we feel distant to God.

By specifying, "…who art in heaven", we express the supremacy of our Father, surrounded by the angelic host. This places our prayer in the context of worship and adoration; it also identifies our true home.
