The only returning artist from the first instalment of ‘shiny.non.definable.rarities’ on Flux Collective is the label’s own Naboklage. He starts the compilation with the crunched-up rhythms of ‘Wesh Magøl’, in which hard-hitting breakbeats slice through vibrant soundscapes, setting the stage for an album touched by IDM, Techno, Trance, and more. Forward-thinking, futuristic, and introspective at times, Guild Navigator, Max Duret, and Eastern Distribution supply fast-paced drums laced with dystopian sounds, with Vel’s ‘People Just Drink’ making for a rhythmical flurry offset by mysterious vocals.
The deep and murky sounds of Brix’ ‘Brane 2’ are followed by the wonky underwater techno beats of Reinhaudt ‘Time Dealer’, before Agata returns to interstellar exploration with her excellent trance cut ‘Hiding Places’. Eli Høff ‘Invocation 1’ features a stripped-back dungeon groove, rattling percussion signalling the calm before the storm, while ‘Patternseeker’ by Komett99 brings a daring escape to mind via its wild synth sequences. Radiation Pattern, Ettore Rigadello, and Surt drop additional mind-melting space-racers, with Ottersbo ‘Checkpoint ‘00’ being a time-warping Jungle-fuelled rave cut. Oecus’ Avant closes out ‘shiny.non.definable.rarities’ on Flux Collective with ‘Crucio’, ending the compilation on a high with a speedy Techno track complete with wormhole sonics.
Flux Collective is an Oslo-based music label and creative community dedicated to exploring the depths of experimental electronic music. Founded in 2021 in the shadows of the pandemic with the vision of fostering innovation and collaboration in the music scene, the collective curates immersive releases reflecting its commitment to diversity and originality, featuring local and international talent.
‘shiny.non.definable.rarities.02’ is a fantastic collection of modern trips and hypnotic dreamscapes.
