Topic 1: Happy New and welcome back to HatTrick! We waste no time digging in to a big juice topic this week: Right out of the gates Jordan, Elliott and Braydon discuss how the sports media and fans continue to find ways to compartmentalize athletes off field behaviour, when discussing their in game accolades. Is it even possible to separate the two and, should we? 

Topic 2: With the NHL season in a tailspin, due to postponements and rescheduling of games what if anything can be done now to limit the long term impacts on the season. Or have we pasted the point of no return and is the NHL's end game some form of "herd-immunity" ?

Topic 3: #HATSOFF is back so Braydon, Elliott and Jordan each pick someone to "Take their Hat off to" (And lets just say one pick this week is a bit controversial!)

This is our special "Best of the Year" episode. Braydon, Elliott and Jordan all went back into the Archives to pick out their favourite topics from 2021 and we have complied 3 of them here. This is a snapshot of some one the topics we discussed this year.

This is the last show of 2021!

Topic 1: Why has the NHL not just pulled the plug and temporarily halted the season? Over 75 players have tested positive for Covid in the past week and dozens of games have been postponed. Now the NHL is suspending cross boarder games, so we ask why not just pause the season temporarily and continue when the numbers go down?

Topic 2: Following right after our conversation about the NHL and Covid, we ask the same question of the Olympics. It feels like only a matter of time before the NHL and NHLPA agree that sending players to China for the game is no longer feasible. So what next?

Topic 3: Finally we wrap up 2021 with a look back at 3 of the biggest stories from the year!

1. Soccer Canada's amazing year with Gold at the Olympics and a world cup qualifying tournament that has electrified the nation. 

2. Kyle Beech's bravery in coming forward about the Chicago Blackhawks sexual abuse scandal and cover up, was one of the biggest examples of change sweeping across the sports landscape. This year felt different so much progress and also so many example of how much work still needs to be done! 

3. F1 had arguable its most dramatic and exciting season and coupled with the success of the Netflix series Formula 1 has exploded in popularity in North America. 2021 was the biggest year for f1 in Canada and it seems destined to only grow!

Topic 1: What was setup as the Epic Finale to a crazy Formula 1 season certainly brought the drama. After dominating the race Lewis Hamilton was robbed of his 8th World Championship due to some very questionable and frankly confusing late race decisions made by the race director and officials. The F1 season ending with Red Bull Racing Max Verstappen crowned Champion in what is one of the most controversial final races in history... We Discuss...

Topic 2: Another Championship was won on Sunday night. The Grey Cup was won by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Leaving the home crowd and the rest of the Hamilton Tiger Cats licking their wounds. We talk about if the Grey Cup and the CFL in general can survive or is this the beginning of the end of the Canadian Football League.

Topic 3: Coming off a 5th consecutive loss the Edmonton Oilers have been left looking for answers and the fans are left wondering whats next. Is it too early to hit the panic button or are the Oilers woos more serious than they seem?

As well as recap the past few races leading us to end of the season. Then it's time to tun their attention to Dubai and the season finale as Max Verstappen & Lewis Hamilton duke it out one last time in 2021 all to see who will be crowned WORLD CHAMPION! The stakes are high, the anticipation is higher this  one is for all the marbles!

Topic 1: After weeks of waiting the Vancouver Canucks finally made changes! Firing their Coach and GM. But is it too little too late for them to salvage the season and to win back their angry fanbase?

Topic 2: The MLB owners officially locked out the Players this week setting up an ugly labour dispute. We discuss why this story has garnered so much attention in December considering we are still several months away from the first pitches of spring training. Is it possible that this is really just a distraction?

Topic 3: We resurrect one of our HatTrick favourites with the return of the game "WHO SAID WHAT?" Braydon and Elliott compete to see who can correctly identify the mystery sound bits! 

Topic 1: Jordan & Elliott discuss how 2021 has been the best year in the history of Canadian Soccer and how the Mens national team has found so much success. 

Topic 2: Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai appeared to be missing this week following her accusations of sexual assault against a high ranking member of the Chinese communist party. This story has once again turned a spot light on the Chinese deplorable human rights record and opened the door to new conversations about Olympic boycotts and political action, we discuss.    

Topic 3: It has been a rough week in Vancouver. The Canucks have been struggling but the drama on the ice has been overshadowed by the drama in the front office. Is it time for change in Vancouver?

Topic 1: After months of anticipation Canada's mend national team played host to a world cup qualifier in Edmonton this week. Elliott was there and he leads us through what this game and what the this teams success means for Canada's soccer fans! 

Topic 2: Is McDavid not getting the calls because he is too fast for the human eye or because the current roster of NHL referees aren't call the rules as written? We discuss.....

Topic 3: After arguably the best weekend in his illustrious career, does Lewis Hamilton have what it takes and frankly enough time to catch his rival Max Verstappen and win his 8th World championship?  (Its like a special edition of The Pitstop Podcast, hidden in an episode of HatTrick!)

Topic 1: Following up on our discussions last week about the Chicago Blackhawks scandal; and after this past weeks new revelations about who knew what, we pick up the conversation about how the NHL continues to make things worse. We also look at how this issue is bringing more and more issues to the surface. 

Topic 2: It's been a bad week for Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. After testing positive for COVID it was revealed that he had mislead his team, the NFL and the public about his Vaccination status. The response has been swift and harsh. Rodgers has defended himself and in doing so only increased the scrutiny. Our conversation gets heated when Jordan calls out Joe Rogan and we debate how celebrities and athletes should be cautious about how they use their public platforms. 

Topic 3: Following McDavid's "Goal of the Year" we spend the last topic enjoying the Oilers great start and discuss if this team is for real!
