On todays show, Rebecca Webster, an Oneida woman, Indigenous corn grower and author of Our Precious Corn: Yukwanénste, joins host Douglas Haynes to talk about the role Haudenosaunee corn plays in her Oneida identity and culture. Becky shares excerpts from the book and we also hear part of “Three Sisters Corn Soup,” which is a YouTube video Becky created as part of her non-profit Ukwakhwa.
Dr. Rebecca M. Webster (Kanyʌʔtake·lu) is an enrolled citizen of the Oneida Nation in Wisconsin and an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in their American Indian Studies Department, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in their Tribal Administration and Governance programs. She currently serves as the Chairwoman of the Oneida Land Commission, an elected tribal body responsible for setting land use and acquisition priorities for the Oneida Nation.
