On this episode we welcome a special guest to our podcast -- Omari Akil from Board Game Brothas. Omari joins us to talk about what it means to be a game publisher, how he got started, and some of what it takes to bring a game idea to fruition (a vision, patience, feedback, and perseverance). We discuss the importance of bringing diverse voices to game publishing and what’s next on the horizon for Board Game Brothas.
Omari and his brother created the game Rap Godz in 2018. Omari shares the genesis story of the game, and why it was important for him and his brother to keep creative control and self-publish. After its first successful Kickstarter campaign, they are now taking pre-orders for the second printing in 2021. Omari is also preparing for the launch of their second title: Hoop Godz, which launches on October 21, 2020. Join us as we discuss behind-the-scenes aspects of the gaming business, and some of the unique challenges of being a game designer who is mindful of opening up the gaming community to more diverse perspectives.
